Elsmere Canyon to Historic Beale’s Cut

Easy paced moderate 7 mi, 1000' gain hike to the site of the Historic Beales Cut.
The pace will be easy, but there will be some steep rugged portions of the trail.
You will see remnant machinery of the once thriving oil industry along the way.

Meet at Elsmere/Whitney Canyon Trailhead parking lot at the southeast end of Newhall Road in Newhall at the Park and Ride at 8:30.

Bring 1 quart of water, lunch, camera,
hat, gloves, and appropriate footwear WITH TREAD. Hiking poles will be helpful. (Leader: Jerry)

The waterfall in Elsmere is not accessed by a trail and there is too much poison oak to go through to get to it safely. We won't be going by there. However, we will be building a trail to it as soon as we have the "go ahead" for that.

Exit SR-14 at Newhall Avenue. If you're coming from the north, turn left on Newhall Avenue. If you're coming from the south, turn right. The park and ride is right there at the end of the street. Park there, meet at the green gate
