I'm a long time resident of the Monterey Bay Area and also organize Over The Top Cycling here on Meetup. Hoping to do more riding at the north end of the bay where I first started out.
30 miles/4400 ft of climbing on fire roads and single track at Fort Ord usually takes about 3 1/2 hours
I have 10 Death Ride 5-pass finishes and did the Planet Ultra KOM Challenge in 2011. For now, just having fun doing 3-4 hour rides of the 50 mile/100km variety, usually followed by lunch/wine/beer/etc.
I must have missed the requirement for a Monterey residence; I live in Scotts Valley (which may be somewhat closer than some of your other members).
I noticed that some of your rides happened in my riding area (which does indeed extend down to Monterey). I joined so that I could be aware of the details of the rides. Occasionally I may prefer joining one of your group rides.
If this motivation isn't what you want for the group, let me know and I'll leave the group.
(Hm, threads don't exist?)
Isaac and I plan on starting tomorrow at 6 am. Do you have a mapped route, or is one of those you cant get lost rides?
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving,
Thanks for the greeting Tino :) I look forward to riding with all the group members. I love to ride but know very little of all the Mt. Biking in the area. I am barely getting into Mt. Biking, but I ride road a lot more.
I usually ride really early in the morning (6 am), but do a long ride on the weekends. If you use map my ride as well I would love to add you to my friend list and pick up on some of your routes.
Hopefully we will ride together soon :)
Not sure of distances, but the goat loop is about 5mi, but takes 45 min (or more?) depending on fitness level/fitness of rider. Best times: M-F 4:30 (just enough time to get in an hour before dark!); Wkd/Holiday: the earlier the better. I travel about 2 weeks out of the month. TJ
Greetings Tino, Sadly I will miss this weekend's markleeville ride(s), sounds fabulous. I hope to get out and do your last weekend ride instead. have a great weekend of riding!
Hey Tino, thanks for the greetings. I typically ride around Fort Ord in Marina, Wilder Ranch in Santa Cruz, and Nisene Marks in Aptos. All fun spots, but I'm up for exploring new areas too. Thanks!
Thanks for the greeting Tino. Look forward to attending at least one cycling meet-up soon!
Tino, thank you! Fantastic! Although, now I'm incredibly intimidated haha...do you have any beginners that I could start off with? I'm going to start pepping up next weekend.
Thanks for the invite. That would be great - I'm always up for different spots to train. I'm a bit rusty and the hills here are a lot steeper than most of San Diego's so I'll have to start slow. Keep me posted and I'll make sure to make my way out. Thank again!
Thanks for the warm greeting Tino. Look forward to riding with you this season.
