~*If we have a close relationship with wild places, we will strive to save them for future generations and from development- is the idea behind trips in to nature.
Celebrate the success of the efforts by the Sierra Club and other environmental advocacy organizations to convince Congress to establish by law a "National Wilderness Preservation System for the use and enjoyment of the American People.”
This landmark legislation was signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson 50 years ago.
For over 100 years our Sierra Club Outings Program, led by dedicated volunteers, like our presenters Diane Cornell and Lynne and Ray Simpson, has shared adventure and service trips in these wild places to build public support for conservation projects.
Join us to hear Diane, Lynne and Ray tell us about their rich experiences with international Sierra Club outings. The Simpsons have led more than 160 national and international trips for the Sierra Club and have been involved with the management of the National and International Outings Committees.
Their trips range from local service trips at Pfeiffer Big Sur or Piedras Blanco Lighthouse to adventures to places like Antarctica and Madagascar. In 2013, the Simpsons received the Sierra Club Oliver Kehrlien Award, honoring them for outstanding service to the outings programs.
Diane Cornell, another International trip leader will also present a colorful review of her Sierra Club trips through Italy, which happen each year.
