Hike: Wilder Ranch Baldwin-Eucalyptus Loop

An 8-mile hike, with 700 feet of elevation gain. It starts across Highway 1 from 4-mile beach, north of Santa Cruz. As we go up the marine terrace, we see a great view of the ocean. Then we walk through the oak hills and the redwood forest. Last April there were many wildflowers. A snack stop is planned at the Eucalyptus Grove, with a panoramic view of the Monterey Bay. Bring a snack and water.

We will be carpooling from the Santa Cruz Government Center at 9 am, so please come ten minutes earlier. Or meet us across from 4-mile beach at 9:15.  Back at Highway 1 around 1 pm. Call if you have any questions. Leader: Allan Neymark, 831, 457, 2505.

I liked the hike, I thoroughly enjoyed all the conversations with the brilliant array of people that joined the hike. The hike showed me the richness of our Santa Cruz local environment. Every time we reached the top of a trail, we could pause and look down on the fields of agricultural along the coast and the expanse of blue green ocean with wind white-capped waves. We met mountain bikers coming up, what an effort, and going down, and I was amazed to see several unicyclists negotiating these trails. The cyclists were respectful of us. I didn't bring my camera, hope some of you put up some photos. thanks, Cat

Is there an easy way to recognize "across from 4-mile beach"?

    • Allan N

There is a dirt parking lot on the ocean side of Hwy 1, used by surfers. The hills side has a paved road intersection, with a gate.
