Hike: Wilder Ranch Big Loop

A 13+ mile hike, with 1200 feet of elevation gain, at a medium pace of 2.5 mph. Starting near the bathrooms, we will go north through the oak hills, down to lunch at 4-mile beach, and return along the ocean bluffs. You will get to see the great variety of ecosystems at Wilder, plus some great views. Bring plenty of water, lunch, and an extra layer in case it gets windy on the way back. Meet at Wilder Ranch, in the parking lot near the bathrooms, at 8:45 am. You can park on Highway 1 and walk in, if you don't have a park pass. Return around 4 pm.  Leader: Allan Neymark, 831, 457, 2505.

Hiking in gale winds is an experience! Wide variety of butterflies and spring flowers. The jungle section was wonderful. Thanks Maggie for carrying on.

I will miss the hike, and Maggie Dickson will be leading instead. My mother had emergency surgery on Tuesday, so I am staying with her in L.A. Mom is doing well now. Maggie and I were leading hikes together last year. You can call her with any questions at 831, 688, 6252.

This is my route, for curious hikers, and hike leaders. Engelsmans Loop, Long Meadow, Chinquapin, Eucalyptus Loop, Baldwin, 4 Mile beach, and Ohlone Bluffs back to the bathrooms.

Gotta watch out on the trail down to 4-mile beach, especially the Northern Baldwin loop trail: very overgrown and full of stinging nettles & ticks

I usually take the south leg of the Baldwin loop, which is more open.

    • Joe K.

Yep, the south leg was much better, I'm really happy to be going on this hike!

I should have said "down to the 4-mile beach parking area on Hwy 1" It was OK west of Hwy 1

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
