To say the wildflowers this year have been a disappointment might be a bit of an understatement. The Big Sur coast is one of the best areas to view flowers and I feel the Vicente Flat trail tops for diversity. I usually find at least a couple dozen types and this year does not disapoint. And if the flowers are not enough the views up and down the coast are outstanding! The trail is 5 miles to the camp with less than 2000' of gain with a moderate grade. We will have lunch a Vicente Flat camp under the shade of the redwoods before returning by the same trail. If you have not done a wildflower hike this year or just want to enjoy one of the best, this one is for you. The trail is in great shape thanks to Mike Herd and the VWA!
This will be a moderate hike spending time to enjoy the flowers and views. There is however poison oak along the trail, approppriate clothing advised.
I will LEAVE Capitola at 7:00, it is at least 1 3/4 hour drive, plan to be gone all day! It's certainly an early start but worth it.
I will stop at the Rio Road park and ride ONLY if you say so in your RSVP.
