Wondering what to make at home on Meatless Monday? Let's try out a bunch of different dishes and find out what you like! I had some requests for a potluck so people could try out some home-cooked food and figure out what to make for themselves. There will be some full-time vegetarians and vegans in attendance who are terrific cooks, so the food should be great and you can get some inspiration!
DeLaveaga Park also has some nice hiking trails that aren't too strenuous. Well-behaved dogs are allowed on leash in the park.
This potluck was really popular last year, and we had a lot of fun! Beautiful DeLaveaga Park feels like the country, but it's just outside of Santa Cruz!
Here's the deal:
1. Bring about 8 side-dish-size servings per person of meatless food. Better to err of the side of more than less.
2. Bring a recipe that lists all ingredients so that people with allergies or food restrictions know what they can eat.
3. Bring a plate, bowl, utensils, and something for yourself to drink.
4. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on, in case we can't get a picnic table (although, that's never happened yet).
5. Please change your RSVP if you're not coming so we don't stress if you're not there. We will watch for you.
6. Please say what you're bringing so we have a balance of dishes for our meal.
At the end of this event description are some links to recipe collections so you can get some ideas of what to bring. If possible, since there will be people there who don't eat animal products (because of allergies, health, and so on), if you can bring vegan food, that would be appreciated. It's not a judgment about how you eat: it's merely practical so we have enough food for everyone. Plus, eating no animal products on Meatless Monday is even better for the environment than eating vegetarian! Another alternative is to cook part of your dish vegetarian and leave out the animal product in the other half, or have it as an optional add-on (such as blue cheese on a salad).
Important! Study this so you can find us.
Here's the sign at the entrance:
The entrance is on Branciforte DRIVE, not Avenue. If you see a golf course, you went the wrong way.
Following is a Google map that includes a picture of the entrance. The Red marker shows the entrance location. Click the picture in the left pane to expand it and then click the arrows in the circle to swivel around in the view! How cool is that!
We'll set up by the playground or at the reserved picnic areas across the street, such as Cathedral or Lone Tree (if they aren't reserved that day), shown on the map and in the picture here:
On the City of Santa Cruz map, the entrance is on the far right.
Note: We will place a map at the entrance sign showing where we've set up.
Print the directions and bring it with you - people frequently get lost. Mobile phone reception is poor in that area.
The RSVPs reflect the total from multiple meetup groups.
You come under your own liability to this event.
