The UCSB College Republicans are trying to bring Ben Shapiro to campus in May as a keynote speaker to cover the topic "Liberal Bias in the Media and Entertainment" and need help raising funds. I'll be honest, the only time I saw Ben Shapiro was in his interview with Piers Morgan debating gun control (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHIQtxLCgrM), and I was quite impressed by the way he framed the debate and presented his arguments. Although Ben Shapiro might not be 100% libertarian, he is smart, young, and well spoken, and his presence would be a boon to the UCSB culture which is dominated by statist/socialist speakers. Considering that in the past that the CR's brought in speakers Karl Rove and David Horowitz, two very polarizing and controversial neo-con speakers, I think Ben Shapiro would be a great improvement. Shapiro's views would offer a side of the argument that many UCSB students don't hear or aren't aware of, and let them know there is actually a club on campus that's not liberal. If anyone would like to help them out, checks can be written out to UCSB College Republicans at 6528 El Nido Apt. B, Goleta, CA 93117.

Hi Stephen, I am writing to follow up our brief phone conversation from last night regarding the UCSB CR speaker event.
Our Club is currently coordinating a speaker event on campus on the topic of "Liberal Bias in the Media and Entertainment" with Ben Shapiro.
Our current financial situation:
Our Club did a fundraiser with the environment earning $200
We appealed for and received $1,250 directly from the school
We raised just under $500 from private donors -- mostly people from outside of Santa Barbara!
We have sent out one dozen formal donor letters to people we know are passionate about getting the Republican word out at UCSB
We have appealed to the CRNC
We have a second fundraiser planned for this quarter
And YAF will aid us with an undetermined sum.
Ben Shapiro's honorarium is $5000 plus reimbursement for gas from Los Angeles. We expect our venue to be around $300 and security to be $100.
Please see the attached letter for a more detail from our Executive Director, Sara Callahan, whom I believe you know.
Although the Ron Paul campaign has ended, it's time to look towards the future. Today many continue fighting for our Constitutional Republic by supporting his son Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky for President in 2016.
We encourage you to utilize this site to communicate, plan and collaborate on freedom related events in the Santa Barbara area as well as major events in the central coast including Republican Liberty Caucus meetings, Young Republicans events, Liberty on the Rocks events, Campaign for Liberty events, End the Fed rallies, Second Amendment rallies, Tea Party, Libertarian, Constitutional Conservative events and more.
