  • Any Bike Riders Out There?

    Date: Sunday, June 22, 10am

Route: Bradenton's Tarpon Point Grille to Anna Marie Island's Beach Bum Bar (and back, about 15 miles each way)

Get your bike and come join us. We will meet at Tarpon Point Grille in Bradenton at 10am

This is an excellent work out with a scenic view of beautiful homes, boats, and water views. We also go through Robinsons Preserve as part of the trip. (It is not a casual bike ride)

We average a speed of around 15-20mph, but really the terrain dictates how fast we can go, with open areas that let us jam it out, and a few areas that require a slower pace. Tired of being cooped up in a spinning class? Come do the real thing!

    Some points of information
    - We stop along the way to drink/eat- We socialize the whole way- Be prepared for any bogeys (ie. people, cars)- It’s about 1.5 hours out, and 1.5 hours back, plus rest time- When we get there, we like to sit and have lunch - I do the route all the time, it’s the actual Bradenton marked bike route through Robinsons Preserve out to Manatee Beach on Anna Marie Island.

Comfort items: Sunscreen, hat/visor/helmet, drinks or money to buy, cell phone to take pictures.

I'm sorry Jeff for making such problems on your first hosting position. I won't be going anyways. I had an accident on the Legacy Trail. Thanks.

To Lori, Rodney and Stpatty: Jeff has volunteered to host an event, thank you Jeff. It is also posted with another group. If any of you 3 would like to post an event that is more to your liking (shorter, slower ride or whatever), please email either Wayne or myself and we will post YOUR event for you, and you can host it. To Jeff: you have now been initiated into the trials and tribulations of being an event host !

Well I am open to anything at this point. I can ride either way as I do this ride all the time.

I think stopping at Robinsson Park and not going to the beach drive scenic area on Anna Maria is a mistake since we get so close . We have different stops for refreshing to allow us to get the 18 miles as scheduled .
And it is completely flat we just need to drink plenty of water .

Jeff....Now we are back to 15 miles each way! Why?

We can cut the ride to 18 miles for sure. It will eliminate the chance to eat lunch at the halfway way point, 9 miles out, as there are no eating/drinking establishments at Robinson Preserve, the half way point. The entire route has 4 sections to it, and eliminating the last section, the beach section, gets us to 18 miles. We would be going from Tarpon Pointe to Robinson Preserve and back. There is a quicki mart along the way for drinks and rest. Would be a great ride.......thoughts?

I would be open to changing things up for sure.....but because we have done this before, its important to emphasize that its not a casual stroll kinda thing. There is a way to cut the ride down to something like 9 miles each each way?....18 miles total.....even that would be an awesome ride......thoughts?

I get that it's not a stroll in the park but 18 is do-able for so many more people that it bares consideration

    18 miles sounds much better!

Why don't you start the first bike ride with something less aggressive and on another day. Sounds like ramping-up has merit in this case.

I thought it was 15 miles total. Thirty miles.......I don't think I could do. I'm really interested in something shorter (15-17) miles. I hope that something like that will develop! I really don't think I'm alone on this.

Any other day would work better for me.
