Fairchild Tropical Gardens 22nd Mango Festival

Let's go to 22nd Annual Mango Festival at Fairchild Tropical Gardens in Cutler Ridge, just south of Miami.  This will be a 3 day/2 night trip, staying at the the 4-star Sofitel in the heart of Coconut Grove. We will also tour other botanical gardens: the Kampong, the Montgomery Botanical Gardens, the Fruit and Spice Park, the Schnebly Winery (wine made from tropical fruit), and a local produce stand of 50+ years, Robert is Here.   The cost for the trip is approximately $245 per person, based on double occupancy of the hotel.  If you are a member of the Selby Botanical Gardens the cost will be approximately $210.  This includes car pool expenses (not enough people for a bus this time, sorry), two nights at the 4-star Sofitel Hotel in Coconut Grove, and admission to all of the attractions.  Each person is responsible for booking their own room.  To book your room call Melissa Quiros with group sales Sofitel Hotel,[masked]-4888.   You have two payment options - you can get a fantastic rate of $90/night completely non-refundable, or you can pay $102 and preserve the right to cancel within 24 hours of arrival.  Each person will also be responsible for their own meals.  To get the great room rate you must call and speak with Melissa.   Join us.   It'll be a real hoot!      (please email me a copy of your reservation so I can use it to keep track of who's going - [masked]).

Friday: leave Sarasota around 7:30 AM, arriving at the Montgomery Botanical Center, then visit the Kampong, then the hotel

Saturday: leave the hotel at 8:20 and proceed to Fairchild Tropical Gardens for the 22nd Annual Mango Fesitival: the Mangos of Colombia.

Sunday: check out of hotel and car pool to Fruit and Spice Park, then the Schnebly Winery (wine made from tropical fruit), then the produce stand, then home.

Here is a flickr link to most of the photos I took during the trip. The last 10 or so were taken by Nick:

A completely fabulous weekend! Thanks so much, Will, for organizing this wonderful group excursion and being the group papa bear. :) The Montgomery and Kampong were just stunning - what a treat to get such excellent guided tours, especially from the Director at the Kampong. The Mango festival was awesome (all hail the Edward mango!) and the Fruit and Spice Park and Robert is Here were a great way to finish off the weekend. Can't wait for the next excursion.

Hard to put it in words. Three hours at the Kampong was so incredible. A real walk through history and a spectacular collection of fruit trees from around the world. The mango festival was great. Probably the best weekend I have had in many years. I'll be back!

Chris and I would love to go, however his sister lives in that area and I have a small dog who travels with us as I don't have someone to watch her here (and we're on a pretty tight budget). Would it be possible to meet up wit the group in the mornings and participate with the group for the rest of the day's activities? If that would be possible and you could let me know the cost that would be really great. We are happy to contribute to the bus, etc and go with the group for everything else. feel free to email me privately if that's better- [masked]. Thank you!

There's really not much better than a fresh mango. I'm eager to sample some of the new varieties that have been developed.
