Meet me at Myakka!!

Myaka River State Park-Myakka has 38.9 miles of loop trails to explore. The Mossy Hammock Trail is 2.2 miles but takes about 2 hours.  These are rugged trails though the woods.  We will check in at the visitors center to explore our options and set our course.  Following our trail hike we will check out the alligators and have a snack at the new cafe.  For those who want to spend the day there are several other sites including the airboat tours on Lake Myakka.  Popular trails  include the canopy trail and a birding trail. We will decide which will work best for the group when we arrive. Following are walk we can meet at the restaurant that is onsite.

Great job with the camera guys , so many good shots like capturing the gators teeth and the awesome bird shots . Thanks for organizing and help creating the nice experience, will do again! That man eating fish actually caught me. (But I got away)

There were a few drops of rain, but very little mud. My white shoes are still white! The pics posted by Caroline and Cathy are awesome. I finally got to see my gators!

Sorry, I wont be coming today. It also might be very muddy or under water along some trails. Myakka is on very low and floods easily.

I recommend not wearing any white tennis shoes on this walk. Susan K. and I went to the deep hole and viewed/photographed 45-60 alligators there and that walk was very muddy. We also walked the canopy trail and went up the canopy tower to look over the forest. Bring your cameras if you like photography.

Just want to be sure everyone knows there's an entrance fee = $4 for an individual or $6 per car load (2-8 people) to get into this park. I live closer to north gate, off of Clay Gully Rd., which is open on weekends (same fees apply). Otherwise, the main entrance is off of Clark Rd., (east of I-75). The park opens 8 a.m. & visitors asked to leave by sundown.

Wear your gym shoes or hiking boots. Long pants might be better than shorts.
