This group is geared towards providing controlled, positive outings for reactive dogs. We walk together and help each other by being stimuli for counter conditioning and desensitization work, learning impulse control and reinforcing desired behaviors in distracting situations.
The idea is that reactive dogs need to practice being around other people or dogs or whatever they are reactive to, but at a level that is under threshold. We can do this by respecting each dog and persons limits. Dogs should have basic obedience and since we aim to stay under threshold, we should be building on positive experiences each outing and hopefully lowering threshold levels and developing a positive conditioned emotional response.
We meet for group walks in different locations - hikes, walking with distractions, etc. and can meet for practice sessions too. I am not a trainer but have learned from many trainers, books, and my own dog. Please no force based methods and respect each other and each dog. Only one dog per handler for "special needs" dogs. Friendly dogs are always welcome but should be behaved enough and under control to respect dogs that need space.
