My lens was too small to get everyone in one shot!

I tell everyone who complains about "can't get everyone in the shot": Check out Panasonic/Lumix offerings (assuming you want to stick with compact cameras). They offer cameras with focal lengths as short as 24mm (when I got mine, no other brand came close). The shorter the focal length, the wider the field of view, the more Nerds you can capture in their native habitat (great for getting apt interiors at openhouses too). http://www.panasonic.net/avc/lumix/line_up/wide_angle.html

Thanks, John! I appreciate the link, especially because the other thing I nerd out about besides science is photography. But I stick with my Nikon D90 most of the time. I just didn't have a wide angle lens with me that evening. Sigh! :) That's pretty awesome that you can get compact cameras in 24mm though. Geez.

D90 is a sweet package. I come from a Nikon family, and appreciate the "built for Beirut" build-quality, but am thinking abou migrating to the Canon 5d mk2. One used to be able to guess at a camera holder's expertise by asking what kind of film they shot with. Since that's no longer effective, I'll have to default to: iPhoto, lLightRoom, Aperture or sangria?
