This meetup group is dedicated to the education and awareness of the 2011 proposal to close one or more Fountain Valley elementary schools beginning in September 2012. Parents and community members interested in promoting a city that values education and smaller schools should attend the meetups. The Superintendent of FVSD believes a school closure is necessary in order to run an efficient district budget. This group is dedicated to ensuring that the District office has done everything possible to save our schools before turning to this last resort. The Superintendent attended a Town Hall meeting at one of the elementary schools but avoided directly answering questions concerning how money is spent. Save Our Schools - Save Moiola, voice your concerns, and stand up for our children's education and our community.

Now that the Committee has made a decision to recommend the closure of Moiola school (because they estimate the District will decrease in size by only 6 students by the year 2016!) our effort will need to move into another phase as we begin attempting to convince the Board that closing Moiola will not better serve this community or our students.  Our meetups will consist of Board meetings as well as School Closure meetings as boundaries are redrawn.  In addition, suggestions are solicited from members as to next steps the group should take to continue gaining public support. 

The Board plans on saving between $300 and $500k per year as a result of closing Moiola.  If enough families are considering finding alternative educational means for the children (i.e. private schools, home schooling, transfer to another district) the FVSD will not receive any benefit by closing a school.  Only approximately 35 families are necessary to make this financial argument to the Board.  A petition is being developed, and if you are interested in signing it, please contact Lisa Allen.  Welcome to Save Our Schools -Save Moiola.  We all want was is best for our children.  Thank you for your support.
