April Meetup

  • April 17, 2013 · 7:00 PM

Another month, another new place - discover another piece of Berlin. innoQ have invited us to their office in Berlin for the April meetup.

Tobias Neef will be talking about "OO in Scala. The unloved side of the cake"

and as a stark contrast to that

George Leontiev on scalaz-seven

plus some more continuing our "Liv(f)e with Scala" series

Lukasz Balamut on Nokia Places API

For the next meetups please continue the excellent flow of talks/ideas etc.

In case the motivation behind IO monad wasn't very clear .. do read this one http://apocalisp.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/towards-an-effect-system-in-scala-part-2-io-monad/ especially the conclusion of it ..

Thanks to everyone -- hosts, speakers, organizers! Great content, but the duration felt a bit long. Perhaps begin on time and keep speakers each to a set amount of time.

Didn't think I would get a spot and made other plans....

    April 17, 2013

    • Bernd Jürgen S.

That's a pity. Especially that I know that you belong to the more into Scala envolved persons. I would guess that not all of the 30 people are coming. And even 1 more guest should fit...

      April 17, 2013

    • Dirk J.

      Don't worry. I did have a spot.

      April 17, 2013

  • Patrick W.

Sorry for the last-minute cancellation, but waiting for an electrician to come by and he's not here yet...hope someone else can take my spot.

Just planning my nutrition for today - will there be some kind of (healthy ;) snack available?

    April 17, 2013

    • Tobias N.

It depends if you consider beer and pretzels to be healthy ;)

      April 17, 2013

  • José Ignacio Gil J.

I cannot go finally. Sorry for the short notice, I hope someone can take my place.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the meetup tomorrow. We have some very interesting talks on the agenda and another team/work-place in Berlin to discover.

Anyone who can't make it to the meetup (and has a place on it) please change your RSVP so that people on the waiting list have a chance to attend. For those who are waiting - keep checking your status every now and then. There is still Hope! Putting a cap on the number of attendees is not nice, and I would like to apologize to those who are disappointed. Will try hard next time so that this doesn't happen. I am floored by the amount of interest. Keep it up.

    See you tomorrow.

I regret meanwhile not being able to participate. Hope next time.

    April 13, 2013

    • Piyush P.

That is unfortunate. You would have made it in because of the cancellations.

      April 16, 2013

  • Dirk J.

I am on the waiting list too. So if you are on the attendees list and cannot attend, please remove yourself from the attendees list.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure that I RVSPed already weeks ago and now I had to Join Waiting List :(

Hi Marvin, I can assure you that if you RSVPed in time then you shouldn't be on the waiting list .. I just double checked my emails and saw an RSVP for the March meetup and for this one an email today .. perhaps you are mistaken? If you are very sure that you aren't mistaken then perhaps you can shoot out an email to Meetup asking if this behavior is possible.. (On a side note: that Like wasn't intentional; I clicked the wrong link in my email)

Hi Piyush, might be that I clicked the button in the first invitation mail and it opened this page or the app if it was on my phone and then you have to click the button on the page which I forgot. So maybe my fault. Anyway, have fun. See you in May then ;)

      April 12, 2013

  • Tobias N.

Jep, sorry. We can't get more people into our place.

    April 8, 2013

  • Christoph K.

    Is the participation really limited?

    April 8, 2013

  • Lukasz B.

It is rather basic but true story for Places Api in Nokia,
I assume almost no scala knowledge,
I hope it will be good match? Let me know.

  • Lukasz B.

    Hi,

I have our Scala story to tell, do you have a slot for me?

    BR,
    Lukasz

Yesterday I participated the first time and found it interesting and challenging.
Not already in April, but may be in May I could present "The eternal battle against redundancy - a redundant history of programming". This is an oversight of the evolution of programming languages from Zuse-Assembler to Scala and how it was driven by the necessity to avoid redundancies in source code.

Nice like the combination of a cake an scalaz talk. Gonna be fun. I will also provide some drinks. Looking forward meeting you guys.
