Hack 1

  • October 2, 2013 · 6:00 PM

Finally the promised hackathon - well a quarter-hackathon in reality.

Audience of this hackathon are the intermediate to advanced practitioners of Scala. Our intention is to make a "extreme startup server" (https://github.com/rchatley/extreme_startup) that will drive a second hackathon that will be open to all Scala devs/practioners/beginners.

So before you RSVP for the meetup please consider your level of expertise, so that you don't feel left out on that day.

We will split into 4-5 teams who will select a nominal team lead and work on different parts of the server. And yes we will have a test team that will do exploratory end-to-end tests on features.

Sounds promising and want to help plan out the hackathon? Join us on https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/scala-germany

We will start earlier, at 6pm, but don't worry if you come in a bit, as in a little, late.

This was a really great event, I enjoyed it a lot to hack with you guys and learn something new, and I think we can be quite satisfied with the result.

That was great fun. Akka, Play, Scalaz all united :) Very productive. Already looking forward to the next one!

I'm sorry I have to cancel the appointment; surprising work to do.

Looking forward to tomorrow. Food and Drinks will be plenty, wlan and enough power sockets. As this is our first hackathon please expect some chaos :) We will divide ourselves into teams (3 teams for different aspects of the server + 1 team for the acceptance testing). See you tomorrow.

PS: Please be prepared ... https://github.com/ppurang/Hack.1/blob/master/README-WIP.md#preparation

VERY IMPORTANT: Please follow this link to prepare yourself for the hackathon: https://github.com/ppurang/Hack.1/blob/master/README-WIP.md#preparation

I couldn't put the instructions here as it is more than 1000 chars ;) Also check https://github.com/ppurang/Hack.1/blob/master/README-WIP.md#general for some notes on how things will run on that day.

Please keep checking this space for more updates. Anytime I make updates to the preparation I will announce it here.

You answered your own question there :) .. As we will be creating web-services only I would have preferred spray but as you said for the reasons like familiarity, learning curve and documentation Play is a wise choice.

I would not yet consider me internediate, but if there are free seats on wednesday maybe I can come anyway?

(I hope my last comment wasn't published as I was still editing it. Here's another attempt at it.)

Thanks Markus, you are spot on. Familiarity with sbt would be a plus. Some exposure to other libraries and frameworks in the Scala ecosystem would be great.

      More info will follow soon.

Sounds like a great event. I will join spontaneously if I am in Berlin and you have a free seat for me :).

How long will it last - from 18:00 to ...?

    September 16, 2013

    • Piyush P.

I have purposefully kept it kind of open-ended. 22:00 or 23:00 hrs depending on how the participants are feeling and how much we have achieved. If some one has to leave earlier they can.
