Talks at Süddeutsche Zeitung v2.0

Süddeutsche Zeitung is hosting us again! Here are the scheduled talks:

Heiko Seeberger (@hseeberger)
Akka gets sprayed

With Akka, it's a breeze to build scalable and fault tolerant applications. But how can we expose a REST interface on top? Very simple: with Akka! Well, actually this will only be possible in Akka 2.4 (not 2.3) when spray has been completely merged into Akka. Until then, we can include spray as a library. In this talk we will present a simple showcase for building a modern Reactive web application using Akka, spray and AngularJS.

Alexander Lehmann
Introduction to Iteratees

Iteratees allow us to address several shortcomings of well-known Iterator-based patterns for enumeration or IO. As such, they improve on e.g. resource handling, reusability and generalization through composition. In fact, Iteratees have been around for a while now, but only recently they started getting more attention from Scala developers through the Play framework or scalaz. This talk aims at introducing the basic concepts of Iteratees and their siblings, and will possibly get hands on with a live coding demonstration of the underlying principles.

Talks will be in English.

SZ will sponsor food and drinks, so please RSVP! Also, we're looking for some lightning talks: If you're interested in speaking for 5 minutes about a library, your experience with Scala or something similar, please let us know.

For me Alexander's talk was a great introduction to Iteratees, although I had no prior knowledge about them.

I agree. A nice cue to learn more about that stuff over the holidays...

Great presentation from Heiko! The second presentation was a little bit to academic for me (and for the late hour)
