  • Scarabs: The Bug Society

This is a fabulous group of people who have been meeting many decades before MeetUp began. It's unique in that all that is required is fascination and curiosity about bugs, spiders, and other "terrestrial arthropods" to enjoy the lectures, discussion, and occasionally parties. I loved the recent lecture about NW wild bees. Even though many in the audience have a lifelong fascination with insects and many are even professional naturalists and academics, most of us were surprised to learn how little is still known about our wild bees. I learned things in this talk I had never heard ANYWHERE before and I read lots of books and articles for amateur naturalists. Kids beginning to study insects are welcome along with Phd's in sharing all kinds of fascinating discoveries. It reminds me of the excitement I had for Show and Tell as a elementary school kid, but surrounded by my own tribe who also gaze into puddles and flower buds.

Good fellowship with those with a common interest and likes. Only wish it was closer to where I live, commute is a bear, but worth the effort. Was amazed as to the turnout last night, very good and informative talk from a excellent speaker.
