Coney Island Mermaid Parade 2012

Join me for one of the must experience summer festivities:

The Coney Island Mermaid Parade

A completely original creation of Coney Island USA, the Mermaid Parade is the nation's largest art parade and one of New York City's greatest summer events.

The Mermaid Parade celebrates the sand, the sea, the salt air and the beginning of summer, as well as the history and mythology of Coney Island, Coney Island pride, and artistic self-expression. The Parade is characterized by participants dressed in hand-made costumes as Mermaids, Neptunes, various sea creatures, the occasional wandering lighthouse, Coney Island post card or amusement ride, as well as antique cars, marching bands, drill teams, and the odd yacht pulled on flatbed.

We will be meeting at the Coney Island Circus Sideshow Bar (Freak Bar) at 1pm. We can gather everyone, enjoy a beer, and get to know each other.

The Mermaid Parade starts at 2pm, so when we are ready, we can check it out (it goes down Surf Avenue, right where we will be).

After we have enjoyed the parade, we can enjoy all that Coney Island has to offer. We can grab a hot dog at Nathan's. We can check out the Freak Show. We can play some games or ride the Cyclone and other rides at Coney Island or Luna Park. We can go on the beach, and walk the Boardwalk. We can do it all!

The Parade is followed by the Mermaid Parade Ball, a post-parade gathering where costumed parade participants can get together with each other and parade spectators to listen to live music, enjoy cocktails and watch burlesque and sideshow acts performed by some of New York City's hottest performers. It starts at 7pm until 12:30am, so if you are interested in going, you can buy your tickets here: Mermaid Ball Tickets

Come on out and join us on one of Coney Island's best days of the summer! We can't wait to see you there!

PS - I have not determined if I will be attending the Mermaid Ball. Feel free to buy tickets if you want to go, but be warned that it is not officially part of this meetup.

Also, this will be a coed event.

Hi everyone. Sorry if we missed each other - cell service was very spotty & I've only been able to comment now that I've left the beach. Hope you enjoyed the parade! See you soon. Heather
