You know, I got to pondering, besides my own personal history, if part of the reason I could relate to Quinten was that I'm an only child, too. Like, maybe there is a correlation between liking the book and being an only child?

The reason I suggested Feb.-March is that people read at different speeds. Most of the space operas I've read (Peter F Hamilton, Ian Banks) are dense and around 1000 pages. A 1000 page book is a heavy lift for many folks, and those months seem to be when people have the most time to read. (The holidays are over and the weather is still lousy.) Just my two cents.

I googled my question about Quentin's discipline, and apparently it won't actually be answered until the second chapter of the THIRD book, The Magician's Land.

For a book the majority of us disliked, we're getting a lot of mileage out of it!

This is true just like a train wreck we just can't look away. This book had potential.

This was a good meeting about a bad book in my humble opinion.

Sorry guys, forgot I agreed to pick a friend up from the airport. Bought and read the book. Thought it was alright. I with he had given up magic all te way. He was a selfish git.
