Illustrious, witty, and somewhat-controversial philosopher Daniel Dennett—one of the so-called “four horsemen of the new atheism”—alongside Hitchens, Harris, and Dawkins—not only speaks his mind, but now opens it up for tours. Over a storied career, Dennett, co-director of the Center for Cognitive Studies at Tufts University, has engaged questions about science and the workings of the mind, leading to answers that combine rigorous argument with strong empirical grounding—and a fair measure of mischief. In conversation with Bellingham historian of technology George Dyson, Dennett, author of Intuition Pumps and Other Tools for Thinking, shares the “imagination extenders and focus-holders” that he and others have developed for addressing life’s most fundamental questions, from evolution and meaning to mind and free will. Persuading as he educates, Dennett points out pitfalls in arguments as he challenges readers to find still more, and offers delicious opportunities to explore pet ideas with new powers. Presented by Town Hall and University Book Store as part of The Seattle Science Lectures, sponsored by Microsoft. Series media sponsorship provided by KPLU.
Advance tickets are $5 at www.townhallseattle.org or 888/[masked] and at the door beginning at 7 pm. Town Hall members receive priority seating. Downstairs at Town Hall; enter on Seneca Street. Double feature! Your ticket to this event also gains admission to the UW Science Now event at 6 pm.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
