Please Note a CHANGE:  Since food is not allowed anywhere in the Reserve other than the beach by the picnic tables, we will hike up the paved road, take the trail down to the beach, walk along the beach to the picnic tables and then those of us who choose to bring our brunch will eat there.  Please go to Reserve's website to familiarize yourself with the trails and distances to gauge whether you can manage the hike.

 -------

“Bring your own picnic brunch” and join us for a hike at the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve on Sunday, March 4 at 9:00 AM.

We will talk about Conservation Biology.  There is a nice introduction in Wikepedia for those who are new to this topic.

DIRECTIONS: “Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is located between La Jolla and Del Mar, California, north of San Diego. From Hwy 5, exit on Carmel Valley Road and drive west for about 1.5 miles till you reach the Coast Highway 101. Turn left and proceed along the beach for about a mile. The park entrance is on your right just before the highway begins to climb the Torrey Pines grade.”

For information about the preserve, rules, facilities, parking fees, etc., please read: http://www.torreypine.org/

We will meet at 9:00 AM sharp at the picnic table across from the restrooms at the bottom of the paved road by the parking lot.  Parking is $10 (or free along the beach, if you can find a spot there.)

Please know that there is nowhere in the park to buy food or drinks, so you must bring your own.  It is a good idea to wear good hiking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, and to bring a big bottle of water even if you chose not to bring a picnic brunch.

Please RSVP if you will attend.  RAIN CANCELS!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
