Beat the Heat - New Mexico Tour

This will be a tour into the beautiful northern New Mexico high country, with lots of trees, streams and back roads without a whole lot of traffic.

If you have ever wondered about Santa Fe, Taos, Chama, the Sandia Mountains, this would be a ride that you will enjoy. Take some time to get a way from the heat, it has already hit 100 degrees in April, this means it will be a warm summer. There will be cool evenings away from the crowds where you can actually see the stars. Extinct volcanoes that you actually ride through, they are so large.

Scenery that will spectacular, the places are quaint, and charming with the unique New Mexico flavor, just like the food. There is always good food to be found in some very out of the way places.

Riding in country like this will make you remember why you bought that motorcycle to begin with. You can smell the trees, the water and feel those temperatures change as you go through the hollows.

So, get you calendar out, mark the dates, and request that time off. This will be your summer trip that everyone who didn't go, will wish they had!!

The ride to New Mexico's high country went as advertised. We rode highway 60 to Soccoro, thru Salt River Canyon and on some gravel outside of Springerville as they resurfaced the road. Stopped in Pietown for pie and saw a semi-truck and trailer turned over in the road near the Very Large Array. Soccoro was warm but we ate in a small restaurant and had good food. Good nights rest in the Holiday Inn Express with a good breakfast...including an automatic pancake machine. The ride through the back country was great as we headed up to Sandia Peak. Madrid for lunch and then off to Santa Fe, through Santa Fe's old town and on to Taos for the night. Great ride up thru the Gorge. Had dinner at the Gorge restaurant on the plaza. Angel Fire, Vietnam Memorial and Red River on our way to Chama. Delightful weather in the 70's, no rain and no fires. Bloomfield that night then on to 4 corners and Chinle to Winslow. La Posada is awesome and the trains are a bonus. Home Tuesday afternoon. Good Group!!

In reading the hotels, the first night is in Socorro, New Mexico. Make your reservations soon, or the rooms will be gone. There are other hotels close to most of these, except La Posada.
