Scrabble Lovers of Columbus actually began around 18 years ago as an affiliated club for the National Scrabble Association (now the North American Scrabble Players Association (NASPA)) based in German Village. It is currently in two different locations: (1) Kroger Bistro/Tap Room, 150 W. Sycamore St. in the Brewery District on Mondays, and (2) various places like Upper Arlington/Tremont Library, 2800 Tremont Road, Upper Arlington on Saturdays (for the most part).
We have all different skills levels playing. We follow the NASPA rules and use their word book (it helps to know the 2-letter words, people). Some of us (like Mike, Pam, Joe, Doug, Gina, Todd, Margaret, Kristy, Ruchi & John A) go to tournaments; Mike is really good and has great word knowledge and strategy skills, so it's interesting to play him and learn some more. Kristy has been winning at her tournaments (way to go, Kristy!) and placing high enough to take money home. Even Pam won a tournament (talk about parting the Red Sea). Gina is moving up in her tournament play as well. Jason & Doug are smoking their competition.
Don't be afraid of the board, tiles and clocks we use. The timers gives everyone an opportunity to play others, which makes us less casual than some folks like.
Hope to see everyone when you can make it to a Monday or Saturday Meetup. Also, keep an eye out for any other Scrabble play.
