We meet at the Panera Bread restaurant at 14708 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403. Use the back parking lot entrance; we meet in the back room.
HOW WE WORK
We are a group of writers and actors who meet to hear our projects read, get feedback from each other, and get support in developing, casting, and advancing our projects.
We are serious about our craft. There are two "R"s in the Industry: Relationships and Reputation. By supporting each other, by keeping our word (showing up when we RSVP, for example), we build our careers.
We read from 6:30-8:30 pm, then network until 9 pm when the restaurant closes. Most nights, the discussion moves to the outside patio after the doors are locked.
Writers can bring up to 10 pages; they will be read on a first-come first-served basis as time allows. (We tend to get through 4-5 scripts per evening.) Bring enough copies of your script so that each character -- plus the narrator -- will have his/her own to read. Highlight the character's name on the script in color so that the part is easy for the reader to find.
A FEW RULES ABOUT BRINGING SCRIPTS
1. Attend two meetups before bringing a script to the third. If you are a new member, we ask that you attend two meetups before bringing a script to read. You'll benefit from the wisdom of the "audience" and will learn to prepare the script properly (a copy for each reader plus narrator, character names highlighted.)
2. No first drafts. We do not recommend early drafts for a table read. If you have an early draft, ask fellow members to read and give feedback during the networking portion of the evening. Everyone -- industry pros, advanced students, and beginners -- comes here to learn. Which means that the best use of our meetup time is in reading works that are in more polished form.
You are NOT a name on a mailing list to us. We are NOT one of those groups with thousands of members that exist only to sell you something.
Each week, between 20 and 25 writers and actors get together to support each other in developing their craft and industry knowledge. Therefore, we limit our membership to 200 members. If you join and do not check into the website in four months, you may be removed from our members list. We also remove "members" who RSVP and never show. We ask for your committed participation so that you can benefit from our mix of old wisdom, new blood and diverse creative perspectives. Please do not sign up if you do not intend to attend meetings frequently.
