Get Aquainted Dive at La Jolla COVE

Calling all new divers to the club! (And you old timers too).  Let's get together and spend the morning diving!  We will go a one or two tank dive (that's up to you and your buddy) at the ever popular La Jolla Cove!  If you don't have a buddy, don't worry, there will always be someone there to buddy up with...this has NEVER been an issue.  We are a friendly bunch and don't bite unless asked.

Parking can be fairly difficult, so you will probably have to drop your gear and go find a spot....but its worth it!!!... so think of it as a "parking spot" scavenger hunt!  It shouldn't be too bad

So come on out! It'll be great to meet everyone and enjoy diving at the COVE!

The COVE has a wide variety of diving enjoyment opportunities.  Reef, Kelp, and spots of sand here and there make it quite an enjoyable dive spot.  Entry can be an issue, yet we are hoping that mother nature will be kind to us on this day!  There are stairs down to the small beach and entry point is directly ahead from there.

If you are lucky you might be able to spot everything from normal Kelp bass to Seven gill sharks.

So come on out and lets enjoy the Cove!!!!

ADMIN STUFF YOU MUST READ:

The Virtual Donation Jar is always out (for the Meetup site costs and general fund). It's strictly voluntary, but is very much appreciated and needed: Click here for the DONATION JAR

If you have not submitted a Liability Release for Power Scuba, please follow this link to the file, print, sign, and bring to the event along with your C-Card (scuba certification card). You need to do this at least once a year:  Liability Release and Assumption of Risk

You must also read this: Disclaimer and Clarification... AKA Terms of Service...AKA Terms and Conditions

Anyone with a medical conditionpossibly counter-indicitive to diving must have a doctors signature on a diving waiver form and submit signed form to Bill Powers (or an organizer) before they may attend any Power Scuba event. YOU MAY NOT ATTEND AN EVENT WITH AN UNDISCLOSED MEDICAL CONDITION. Doing so is grounds for expulsion from the group. Here is our medical statement: Medical Statement Therein you'll find a Doctor Waiver form as well.

Attending any scuba event Power Scuba facilitates constitutes attendee's affirmation they are medically fit to dive, certified to dive by a nationally-recognized agency, have the necessary skill & training level for the dive being offered, have read the Terms and Conditions, and have submitted a signed Liability Release to an organizer.

Important Note:It is not the organizer's role to lead your dive (or to wait for you after you come out of the water). He/she merely facilitates you getting to the pre-dive meeting location. The Organizer will not assign you a buddy nor will he/she be leading the dive as a "group dive". Visibility and liability do not allow for that. Nor will the Organizer tell you whether you are skilled enough to make any particular dive. That is for you (only) to decide. When you enter the water, you (and your buddy) are on your own. You must plan and execute your dive with your dive buddy only. Once members arrive at the meeting spot, the Organizer becomes simply another diver.

Power Scuba bears no responsibility or liability for a member's loss (gas, airfare, hotel fees, etc) in the event of a cancelled event.

Your participation constitutes your affirmation you agree to these above rules and disclaimers.... and that your buddy(s) (if applicable) has read and agrees to the same.

Glad everyone had a good time. Please remember the Cove is a protected area. IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT REMOVE ABALONE FROM THE ROCKS THEY ARE ADHERED TO. Doing so can injure and kill them. They are a protected species and it is illegal to harm or harass them. Members doing so will be summarily removed from the group.

Chris, I understand what you're saying, but the fact of the matter is it's very hard to remove an ab off its perch... by design. The Force (suction) is strong in them and it takes a tool like an ab iron or similar to be used in order to pry them off a rock. While they will lift slightly in order to grab a kelp frond, I've never seen them "coaxed" completely off a rock in 28 years of diving. All that being said, I'm simply trying to relate to you all that they may not be messed with. They are that precious and rare.

Great group that showed up. Great to see so many new members on a consistant basis. We are a great group of eco-logically minded divers. Please ensure that we respect the rules of MPA areas and we will continue to have great dives such as this one!!!

I am very excited for this dive. I have 30ish (Got to remember to get my dives off my computer) but only 2 of them at the cove during my Rescue Diver Class. Would anyone be willing to show me the sights? I'll bring the big tank just in case :)

This will be my first La Jolla Cove dive. I have done several La Jolla Shores dives, and have been wanting to dive the Cove for a while, looking forward to it. I'll need a dive buddy, hope to find someone who has La Jolla Cove experience.

I'm looking for a buddy if anyone else is looking for one. I have only dove the cove 1 time and I'm pretty new. I'm a side mount diver that is limited to 60' at the moment.
