Southern Orange County Dive - Crescent Bay - Two Tank Event!!!

Southern Orange County Dive!!!!

Just The Facts: Southern Orange County dive sites provide some of the most diverse beach access diving with Reef, Kelp, and abundant sea life....yet visibility is fickle.  Its either AWESOME, so-so, or SCUBA by braille. Yet, I have dove OC and had the best beach dives by far at this exact location.  We have been diving the Shores, Cove, and lower sites like mad and some have voiced that we look towards other sites.  We have done these dive events before with mixed results...The drive for some is a factor...who wants to drive all that way for bad viz...well, who has ever gone on the Yukon hoping for great viz and can't see the boat till you hit it?? Just the nature of the sport...so who's in?

In-Water Time: ~0830 Average Depths 25-50ft

THE DIVE SITE

Crescent Bay is one of the most popular dive sites in Laguna Beach, CA. Located just North-West of Shaw's Cove.  Crescent Bay offers three distinctive dive spots:

-Scattered rocks and reefs which are known to most divers, Many swim through and kelp beds easily accessed from the Beach make this closely mimicking Casino Point, Catalina...I've experienced 40-50ft viz at this site seeing abundant sea life.

-Northwest is Seal Rock which is easily visible from the beach. Seal Rock is home to a dozen or so sea lions and that makes it the only dive site in Orange County that almost guarantee divers an encounter with sea lions.

-There is also a far off reef called Dead Man's Reef about 200 yards directly from seal rock. Rumor has it that the morbid name was coined by dead tired divers after swimming all that way out there and back. Dead Man's reef offers clearer water and more untouched scenery due to the remoteness of the site

Directions:

From SD take I-5 North to the Beach Cities Exit at Dana Point.  Continue on the PCH through Dana Point into Laguna Beach.  Its about 9 miles from Dana Point to Crescent Bay.  Once in Laguna Beach, look for the Chiquita Street sign and go one mile and turn left onto Cliff Drive and go down the hill. The South Entrance will be at the bottom of the hill.  For those with GPS's...put in the intersection of Cliff Drive and Circle Way in Laguna Beach...its dead on.

FACILITIES
The Facilities at Crescent Bay include separate Ladies & Men's Bathrooms and a Rinse Shower. The Facilities Shown at Right are Located at the Bottom of the "South" Crescent Bay Access Point...Hence why we will be going that way....especially for those in dry suits who need to utilize it!!!

PARKING

There is street parking, but it is limited. You can park on Circle Way or Cliff Drive or any side street.
Sometimes it is more convenient to drop your gear at the top of the stairs (off Circle Way or Cliff Drive) with your buddy and then go find Parking on One of the Side Streets. We will access the "South Entrance on Cliff Drive....it is the easier of the two.

Car Pooling

This is advised but not by any means mandated.  Please place in you RSVP whether you can drive and take someone with ya! A couple bucks in gas money never hurts for those riding either!!! You can designate places to meet up!

As always...I will monitor conditions from contacts right on the beach and assess conditions a day prior to the dive.  We should be able to forecast with a combination of eyes on, previous days dive reports, and forecasted conditions to make a reasonable assumption.

Contact Information:[masked]! Text or Call...

ADMIN STUFF YOU MUST READ:

The Virtual Donation Jar is always out (for the Meetup site costs and general fund). It's strictly voluntary, but is very much appreciated and needed:  Click here for the DONATION JAR

If you have not submitted a Liability Release for Power Scuba, please follow this link to the file, print, sign, and bring to the event along with your C-Card (scuba certification card). You need to do this at least once a year:  Liability Release and Assumption of Risk

You must also read this: Disclaimer and Clarification... AKA Terms of Service...AKA Terms and Conditions

Anyone with a medical conditionpossibly counter-indicative to diving must have a doctors signature on a diving waiver form and submit signed form to Bill Powers (or an organizer) before they may attend any Power Scuba event. YOU MAY NOT ATTEND AN EVENT WITH AN UNDISCLOSED MEDICAL CONDITION. Doing so is grounds for expulsion from the group. Here is our medical statement: Medical Statement Therein you'll find a Doctor Waiver form as well.

Attending any scuba event Power Scuba facilitates constitutes attendee's affirmation they are medically fit to dive, certified to dive by a nationally-recognized agency, have the necessary skill & training level for the dive being offered, have read the Terms and Conditions, and have submitted a signed Liability Release to an organizer.

Important Note:It is not the organizer's role to lead your dive (or to wait for you after you come out of the water). He/she merely facilitates you getting to the pre-dive meeting location. The Organizer will not assign you a buddy nor will he/she be leading the dive as a "group dive". Visibility and liability do not allow for that. Nor will the Organizer tell you whether you are skilled enough to make any particular dive. That is for you (only) to decide. When you enter the water, you (and your buddy) are on your own. You must plan and execute your dive with your dive buddy only. Once members arrive at the meeting spot, the Organizer becomes simply another diver.

For Boat Dives: Any overage (usually less than $50) resulting from our local dive boat trips is put into a dedicated Group Boat Fund. This allows us to make up the difference if we don't completely fill up a future boat charter. No other use is made of this money.

Power Scuba bears no responsibility or liability for a member's loss (gas, airfare, hotel fees, etc) in the event of a canceled event.

Your participation constitutes your affirmation you agree to these above rules and disclaimers.... and that your buddy(s) (if applicable) has read and agrees to the same.

Woods Cove is an awesome dive also....unfortunately with Laguna the major issue other than the visibilitity is the PARKING....it sucks.
