Cove dive (Shores backup)

Cove dive!!!

It's time to hit the Cove again! Join us for one or two tanks at the ever diverse Cove: shallows, caves, reef, buoys A and B, sharks, sea lions, the elusive Genghis Khan statue, dolphins, mermaids, and sexy lifeguards. It has it all. All skill and experience levels can appreciate this dive location. Easy entry/exit and depths that can satisfy the new beginner or challenge the experienced! Need a buddy? No worries, there is always someone to team up with around this group!  Arrive by 7:30. In the water by 8:00.

Parking:  It's Sunday, parking is free all day! Just get there early to grab a good spot.

After: I usually get something to eat in the area; perhaps at one of my favorites Puesto!

Strategy: Don't bonk on your kick out, or make friends with a buoy. What is this guy doing?!

Plan B: We will evaluate conditions when we arrive and if they appear bad, we'll move to the Shores. I'll update this event page at that time only if we move, and include my phone number. If conditions look like this, then it's Plan B for sure:

ADMIN STUFF YOU MUST READ:

The Virtual Donation Jar is always out (for the Meetup site costs and general fund). It's strictly voluntary, but is very much appreciated and needed:  Click here for the DONATION JAR

If you have not submitted a Liability Release for Power Scuba, please follow this link to the file, print, sign, and bring to the event along with your C-Card (scuba certification card). You need to do this at least once a year:  Liability Release and Assumption of Risk

You must also read this: Disclaimer and Clarification... AKA Terms of Service...AKA Terms and Conditions

Anyone with a medical conditionpossibly counter-indicative to diving must have a doctors signature on a diving waiver form and submit signed form to Bill Powers (or an organizer) before they may attend any Power Scuba event. YOU MAY NOT ATTEND AN EVENT WITH AN UNDISCLOSED MEDICAL CONDITION. Doing so is grounds for expulsion from the group. Here is our medical statement: Medical StatementTherein you'll find a Doctor Waiver form as well.

Attending any scuba event Power Scuba facilitates constitutes attendee's affirmation they are medically fit to dive, certified to dive by a nationally-recognized agency, have the necessary skill & training level for the dive being offered, have read the Terms and Conditions, and have submitted a signed Liability Release to an organizer.

Important Note:It is not the organizer's role to lead your dive (or to wait for you after you come out of the water). He/she merely facilitates you getting to the pre-dive meeting location. The Organizer will not assign you a buddy nor will he/she be leading the dive as a "group dive". Visibility and liability do not allow for that. Nor will the Organizer tell you whether you are skilled enough to make any particular dive. That is for you (only) to decide. When you enter the water, you (and your buddy) are on your own. You must plan and execute your dive with your dive buddy only. Once members arrive at the meeting spot, the Organizer becomes simply another diver.

For Boat Dives: Any overage (usually less than $50) resulting from our local dive boat trips is put into a dedicated Group Boat Fund. This allows us to make up the difference if we don't completely fill up a future boat charter. No other use is made of this money.

Power Scuba bears no responsibility or liability for a member's loss (gas, airfare, hotel fees, etc) in the event of a canceled event.

Your participation constitutes your affirmation you agree to these above rules and disclaimers.... and that your buddy(s) (if applicable) has read and agrees to the same.

So, just what is the diver in one of the above photos doing with Buoy B? As I was present when that photo was taken, I'm pretty sure he's showing his love for Buoy B (symbolic of the Buoy B canyon wall dive), as it doesn't receive the love and recognition it deserves from local divers as arguably the best shore dive in the county. But shhhh, don't tell anyone, let's keep it pristine!

Hoping your dives are good this morning. I would be out there joining you if it weren't for football tailgating plans. Hoping to do some Cove dives real soon.

Exactly. It's impossible to get out there without spending vast amounts of energy, time and money. Nobody should try.

Oh, those darn Dive Animals had their boat out there yesterday. I bet they even had the nerve to do Scripps Cyn too. Where was Pete S. and the PS yacht when we needed them?

  • Tom B.

Sorry everyone, my cough/congestion won't go away, so can't dive tomorrow. Will try to come down to say hello (if I get up in time!).

    November 9, 2013

    • Jonathan W.

Sorry to hear that. Antihistamines and decongestants can be ok to use while diving, but the bottom line is that you have to be able to equalize your eardrums and feel good enough to dive of course. If you can't make tomorrow, we'll hopefully see you at another event. Get well!

Swellwatch shows absolutely F-L-A-T conditions for Sunday - yay!
I will need a buddy who can lead a dive, as I want to familiarize myself with the area so that I can do more there other than hunt sea stars and snails among the base of the kelp.
P.S. I remembered to connect the hose for two dives now! I hope I can remember that detail from now on ;-)...

I usually just show up and meet my buddy there. This encourages people to get to know each other a bit, I think.
