Winter Warrior Dive At the Shores

So last summer you told yourself:

"I'm going to dive more often, and I'm not going to stop diving just because it's winter."

Fast forward to today: winter ends on March 20th. How's that resolution looking now? Eh? Eh?

OK. So we're here to help. This is one of your last chances to get another dive in this "winter" (were the past few months really winter?). And then you can at least *say* you are a Winter Warrior and that nothing stops you from doing things your passionate about.

Ahem. OK. Moving on...

So a Sunday AM dive. You know the drill. We'll meet near the flagpole, right next to Vallecitos. Look for the Power Scuba sign. If you don't have a buddy, it's never a problem. We're all looking for buddies!

If you'd like to do a second dive afterwards and want to find someone similar, please speak up in the comments section below.

As always, keep an eye on this event page on the days leading up to the MeetUp. If conditions dictate, we may cancel.

NOTE: If you feel that your dive skills have been compromised due to lack of practice, we ask that instead of joining this MeetUp you seek out a qualified instructor for a refresher course. All participants in this or any Power Scuba MeetUp are expected to be competent, qualified divers that are capable of exercising the skills that a scuba certification course requires. Don't worry if you have to miss this MeetUp; we'll have more waiting once you're ready! This is the part we're really good at!

ADMIN STUFF YOU MUST READ:

The Virtual Donation Jar is always out (for the Meetup site costs and general fund). It's strictly voluntary, but is very much appreciated and needed:  Click here for the DONATION JAR

If you have not submitted a Liability Release for Power Scuba, please follow this link to the file, print, sign, and bring to the event along with your C-Card (scuba certification card). You need to do this at least once a year:  Liability Release and Assumption of Risk

You must also read this: Disclaimer and Clarification... AKA Terms of Service...AKA Terms and Conditions

Anyone with a medical condition possibly counter-indicative to diving must have a doctors signature on a diving waiver form and submit signed form to Bill Powers (or an organizer) before they may attend any Power Scuba event. YOU MAY NOT ATTEND AN EVENT WITH AN UNDISCLOSED MEDICAL CONDITION. Doing so is grounds for expulsion from the group. Here is our medical statement: Medical Statement Therein you'll find a Doctor Waiver form as well.

Attending any scuba event Power Scuba facilitates constitutes attendee's affirmation they are medically fit to dive, certified to dive by a nationally-recognized agency, have the necessary skill & training level for the dive being offered, have read the Terms and Conditions, and have submitted a signed Liability Release to an organizer.

Important Note:It is not the organizer's role to lead your dive (or to wait for you after you come out of the water). He/she merely facilitates you getting to the pre-dive meeting location. The Organizer will not assign you a buddy nor will he/she be leading the dive as a "group dive". Visibility and liability do not allow for that. Nor will the Organizer tell you whether you are skilled enough to make any particular dive. That is for you (only) to decide. When you enter the water, you (and your buddy) are on your own. You must plan and execute your dive with your dive buddy only. Once members arrive at the meeting spot, the Organizer becomes simply another diver.

For Boat Dives: Any overage (usually less than $50) resulting from our local dive boat trips is put into a dedicated Group Boat Fund. This allows us to make up the difference if we don't completely fill up a future boat charter. No other use is made of this money.

Power Scuba bears no responsibility or liability for a member's loss (gas, airfare, hotel fees, etc) in the event of a canceled event.

Your participation constitutes your affirmation you agree to these above rules and disclaimers.... and that your buddy(s) (if applicable) has read and agrees to the same.

Usual viz near shore with an inshore southbound current. At depth it opened to 15-20 feet. At 80 ft probably 30-40 ft. The water isn't too cold either. I had 63 up top and 51 at depth. Thermocline around 45 feet. Usual critters.

What marine life is seen on shores day dives?

    March 13, 2014

    • Juan Carlos A.

One of the great things about the shores is that you never know what's going to show up. There are your usual suspects along the wall, but there is also an immense canyon that acts as a natural funnel for a variety of critters. It's the mystery of not knowing what you might see that makes the Shores special.

      2 · March 14, 2014

    • Chris T.

Yesterday at the marine room, right nect to the shores, i saw a pack of juvenile leapard sharks. Yhe usual suspects can include, horn sharks, swell sharks, if you know where to look- wolf eel, always lobster, possible octopus. If you are lucky, angel sharks, guitar fishes and assorted rays. How does that sound Seb?

      2 · March 15, 2014

  • Juan Carlos A.

We're looking good for tomorrow. The forecast is for small to medium waves/swells and a high of 88 degrees and nothing but sun. Woot!
