Shark Dive at the Cove!

Long Hard Week at Work?  Sounds like you need to go diving!!! Lets get you in the water to relieve all that stress and get ready for the weekend!!!

New to night diving? If you have the training (AOW), then come out. Shallow depths make the Cove a good spot to improve your night skills.

Join us for a one tank dive at the famous La Jolla Cove where we will look for 7-gill and Tope sharks.  All skill and experience levels can appreciate this dive location. A reef and kelp forest full of plenty of life. Shallow depths that can satisfy the new beginner. Need a buddy? No worries....there is always someone to team up with around this group!

Parking is free after 6:00 PM and for 2 hours beforehand, so no worries. Since the grass area in front of the rest rooms is closed,  we will be meeting up on the south side of the bathrooms. I will have the Power Scuba sign there. There is a lot of construction going on, so look around. Don't be shy, just ask for Power Scuba if you aren't sure. Bring at least two lights plus a tank light. We will hit the water about half an hour after we meet. As the days grow longer, we will shift this event back to ensure our dives occur at night.

SEE YOU THERE!!!

ADMIN STUFF YOU MUST READ:

The Virtual Donation Jar is always out (for the Meetup site costs and general fund). It's strictly voluntary, but is very much appreciated and needed:  Click here for the DONATION JAR

If you have not submitted a Liability Release for Power Scuba, please follow this link to the file, print, sign, and bring to the event along with your C-Card (scuba certification card). You need to do this at least once a year:  Liability Release and Assumption of Risk

You must also read this: Disclaimer and Clarification... AKA Terms of Service...AKA Terms and Conditions

Anyone with a medical conditionpossibly counter-indicative to diving must have a doctors signature on a diving waiver form and submit signed form to Bill Powers (or an organizer) before they may attend any Power Scuba event. YOU MAY NOT ATTEND AN EVENT WITH AN UNDISCLOSED MEDICAL CONDITION. Doing so is grounds for expulsion from the group. Here is our medical statement: Medical StatementTherein you'll find a Doctor Waiver form as well.

Attending any scuba event Power Scuba facilitates constitutes attendee's affirmation they are medically fit to dive, certified to dive by a nationally-recognized agency, have the necessary skill & training level for the dive being offered, have read the Terms and Conditions, and have submitted a signed Liability Release to an organizer.

Important Note:It is not the organizer's role to lead your dive (or to wait for you after you come out of the water). He/she merely facilitates you getting to the pre-dive meeting location. The Organizer will not assign you a buddy nor will he/she be leading the dive as a "group dive". Visibility and liability do not allow for that. Nor will the Organizer tell you whether you are skilled enough to make any particular dive. That is for you (only) to decide. When you enter the water, you (and your buddy) are on your own. You must plan and execute your dive with your dive buddy only. Once members arrive at the meeting spot, the Organizer becomes simply another diver.

For Boat Dives: Any overage (usually less than $50) resulting from our local dive boat trips is put into a dedicated Group Boat Fund. This allows us to make up the difference if we don't completely fill up a future boat charter. No other use is made of this money.

Power Scuba bears no responsibility or liability for a member's loss (gas, airfare, hotel fees, etc) in the event of a canceled event.

Your participation constitutes your affirmation you agree to these above rules and disclaimers.... and that your buddy(s) (if applicable) has read and agrees to the same.

I had a lot of fun. It was really nice meeting everyone. Sometimes joining a new groups is a little intimidating, but everyone was very welcoming and personable. I'm looking forward to diving with you all again soon. Thanks again.

The air temp may be very hot for tonight's dive. Fortunately the showers are still operational at the Cove. It would be a good idea to rinse down as soon as you put your suits on, especially you drysuit divers.

Hi All. I was looking forward to getting my first night dive in over a year done but the fires have me in a dilemma. While not in danger - I live in Valley Center, the approachment of the fire towards the I-15 around south Escondido has me concerned, since there is no containment of the San Marcos fire. Keeping my fingers crossed they contain it soon as those embers can travel. Next week is more realistic for me w/out having to worry about fires.

So is it safe to assume things are still looking good for this evening?

Just finished diving the cove and yes, conditions are great. Like Jonathan said, it is warm and font overheat but luckily there is a good breeze so it's not too bad. I saw one 7 gill, one tope and a huge Black Sea Bass that wanted to play. See you all in about 3 hours to do it again.

I'll second Lida's comment. I was out at Casa this morning for a loooong dive and visibility was easily 30 feet or better. There is a west/ NW swell that has been pounding the NW facing beaches this week which I'll bet is keeping it nice and clear. It was warm as well, thermocline was at roughly 30 feet. If you are a diver, you should be in the water at least once while Ms. Santa Ana is in town.

I think you guys are in for a treat! At the Cove meetup this morning visibility was about 30 ft, the surf was tiny and we saw at least 4 different seven gill sharks east of the A buoy.

    Chris:

Looks like you will have a winning dive tomorrow, Lake La Jolla strikes again. I'm heading out now before it gets too hot for a little look-see in the caves. Also glad to see that you are leading dives, you are a great diver with fantastic enthusiasm. I hope I can join you on this dive tomorrow...

For info. I dove the Cove Monday night. The grass area in front of the bathrooms closest to the water is closed. Recommend setting up on the south side of the bathrooms.

    May 14

    • Chris T.

Thanks Shaun, We will be meeting up on the south side of the bathrooms! :) I will have the Power Scuba sign there.

Coming solo, I can tag along to any pairs already established. Don't have to worry about me. I do majority of my dives at night. Best time to dive!

Hey all, we will work out the buddy situation at the meetup, you never have to have a buddy to come to a Power Scuba Event.

    Solo as well :-)

I'm also solo so if anyone needs a buddy I'm game.

Hey Jonathan. Just an FYI my RSVP is for Derek. He's still out of the country. I won't be in town so he's on his own!

    April 24

    • Babs

That was posted on the 24th of April you goof! Derek is in town but has now informed me he has an inspector general inspection so he won't be there Thursday. I'm thinking about taking his spot if I can find a buddy comfortable with a newer shore diver....... Enjoy Monastary whatever that is. You getting HOLY and gonna be a monk?! :)

      May 12

    • Jonathan W.

Yes. Monastery should be a religious experience.

      1 · May 12

  • Jonathan W.

Chris Toth will host this event. I'm heading to Monterey to dive Monastery! Oh yeah!

    1 · May 12

  • William E.

If we could do this on the 14th I could make it. But I will be out of town on that day. Also, would be great weather to do a cove dive tomorrow if someone would like to join me. The water today looked very calm and rather clear.

    May 1

    • Jonathan W.

Suggest you post in the Discussion area that you are looking for a buddy on the 14th. Someone is bound to want to go then.
