Thanksgiving Week Dive at La Jolla Shores

Lets burn off those calories with some fine diving adventures!!!

Thanksgiving Day Means DIVING!!!!

If you find yourself with the morning or day off after stuffing yourself with the normal Thanksgiving Day feast...the best way to rid yourself of those extra calories is a two tank dive at La Jolla Shores!!!!

So come on out!!!! We will enjoy a morning of diving!!! If you need a buddy...have no fear...we are a friendly bunch and dive buddies are always a plenty!!! We are a friendly group and don't bite unless asked!!!

Parking can be fairly difficult, I would expect a large crowd due to the holidays, so look for the sign near the flagpole and if you need to just drop your gear off and then go on the scavenger hunt for parking.

So come on out! It'll be great to meet everyone and enjoy diving the Shores!

ADMIN STUFF YOU MUST READ:

The Virtual Donation Jar is always out (for the Meetup site costs and general fund). It's strictly voluntary, but is very much appreciated and needed: Click here for the DONATION JAR

If you have not submitted a Liability Release for Power Scuba, please follow this link to the file, print, sign, and bring to the event along with your C-Card (scuba certification card). You need to do this at least once a year: Liability Release and Assumption of Risk

You must also read this: Disclaimer and Clarification... AKA Terms of Service...AKA Terms and Conditions

Anyone with a medical conditionpossibly counter-indicitive to diving must have a doctors signature on a diving waiver form and submit signed form to Bill Powers (or an organizer) before they may attend any Power Scuba event. YOU MAY NOT ATTEND AN EVENT WITH AN UNDISCLOSED MEDICAL CONDITION. Doing so is grounds for expulsion from the group. Here is our medical statement: Medical Statement Therein you'll find a Doctor Waiver form as well.

Attending any scuba event Power Scuba facilitates constitutes attendee's affirmation they are medically fit to dive, certified to dive by a nationally-recognized agency, have the necessary skill & training level for the dive being offered, have read the Terms and Conditions, and have submitted a signed Liability Release to an organizer.

Important Note:It is not the organizer's role to lead your dive (or to wait for you after you come out of the water). He/she merely facilitates you getting to the pre-dive meeting location. The Organizer will not assign you a buddy nor will he/she be leading the dive as a "group dive". Visibility and liability do not allow for that. Nor will the Organizer tell you whether you are skilled enough to make any particular dive. That is for you (only) to decide. When you enter the water, you (and your buddy) are on your own. You must plan and execute your dive with your dive buddy only. Once members arrive at the meeting spot, the Organizer becomes simply another diver.

For Boat Dives: Any overage (usually less than $50) resulting from our local dive boat trips is put into a dedicated Group Boat Fund. This allows us to make up the difference if we don't completely fill up a future boat charter. No other use is made of this money.

Power Scuba bears no responsibility or liability for a member's loss (gas, airfare, hotel fees, etc) in the event of a cancelled event.

Your participation constitutes your affirmation you agree to these above rules and disclaimers.... and that your buddy(s) (if applicable) has read and agrees to the same.

So when we got there it was not bad. John, Chuck and I did one dive and it turned out to be okay. I think more folks went down later. Overall it was nice.

Patience sometimes pays off. David and I waited for the guinea pig group before going to see if it was worthwhile. By the time they came in the surf had calmed down. David, Chuck and I went out and had a good dive with decent 15 foot vis. A seal came by to say hello in the canyon, saw a horn shark, lots of octopi and fringe head in the nooks and crannies and the usual other life. David and I did a second dive. All in all a good dive day.

It was great diving with you yesterday. Hope to do it again soon. Anytime you need a guinea pig group let me know. The first dive was great too. Would have been great if you could join us on the rigs tomorrow.

Well...this just sucks. Check the report before you come down. I'm here now...4ft waves coming in at less than 10 seconds. Viz reported less than 10ft. La Jolla Cove is closed due to hazardous conditions. Ill be around to meet everyone...Callie had a great comment for this morning..."Its a 3 L day...Look, Laugh, and Leave"

Jason, I can't claim credit for the "3 L's" - saw it on Divebums yesterday.

Current was too fast for me, I turned around halfway out and ended up at the kayak staging area. Hope tomorrow is better!

I'd like to dive up to three tanks starting at 1pm afterwards, if anyone is interested! Just need a break after the morning dive to get everything filled.

Is it too cold to go down with a 7mm wet suit now?

It kind of depends on the person and how they respond to cold, but I think most of us are fine in our 7 mm's. I wear a hooded vest under my 7 mm because I'm a wuss.
