Marine Room... Restaurant?!?

Diving at Marine RoomBreakfast Buffet at Marine Room

WHERE: Anyone familiar with the Marine Room dive site knows that it’s named for the French Restaurant that we haul our gear past each time we dive there. But how many of us have actually eaten there?  Well, now’s your chance!  And no, I'm not referring to chicken wings from a cooler while you're propped up against the restaurant's wall in between dives.

WHAT: All you can eat Breakfast Buffet!

Marine Room is having one of their famous “High Tide Breakfasts” and Power Scuba will be there. I’ve reserved a table for twelve under the name of "Power Scuba". If we fill up early, I will call ahead and try to increase the number of spots, so please sign up now if you know you’re going.

ATTIRE: When I inquired about their dress code, the Maître D' didn't actually say "Just don't dress like a slob" but when I asked that question, he made noises of agreement.  They prefer business casual at nights but at breakfast, they relax the rules a little.

But what about DIVING? Feel free to coordinate with a buddy and go diving after breakfast if conditions allow, but since I am unable to dive at this point in time, I won’t be hosting a dive for this event. Any diving that takes place afterwards will not be an official Power Scuba event.

BONUS: Find out why Eric Golden is buying Scott Greene’s breakfast! Hear the riveting and unbelievable story of how Scott battled a 20-foot great white tiger-leopard shark in zero visibility while summoning help from the local fire department using his amazing psi powers! Learn how Eric held his breath for thirty minutes underwater while fending off a giant squid and was then given mouth-to-mouth by a firewoman who is ALSO a supermodel.

(Image simulating what Eric's rescuer would rather have given mouth-to-mouth to is used with permission by Ashley Hauck)

On a more serious note, this will be a chance to dine at a well-known SCUBA diving landmark and enjoy fabulous food and be treated to a good show put on by the very same Mother Nature that we all need to be respectful of.

The buffet is $32 per person, which is reasonable compared to dinner there. One could easily spend $200 for dinner for two. I hear it’s fantastic, but you could buy new fins at that price and still have money left over for a boat dive.  Breakfast is a lot more affordable, comparatively speaking.

SHOW UP HUNGRY.

Hope to see you there!

Beautiful as always. Especially fun sitting at the window at high tide!

Great idea Eric! Awesome view and the food was really good.

Went for beach walk (OK, waddle!) after breakfast; met 3 divers exiting. Viz was apparently 20 ft or so at the wall. Almost no surf at Vallecitos St. Go figure!

Very nice event. These people actually wear something besides wetsuits!

    • Eric G.

Yeah it was hard for me to recognize Lida without wet hair and a dry suit! I'm sooo full now.

Great to see everyone. The show by Mother Nature was spectacular, the food was delicious, and everyone had a lot of fun. Callie, I'm going to mark you down as having attended this event since you were there. That way you'll get the Power Scuba Toaster Oven after your 100th event. We WILL do this again everyone, on a weekend I promise. Keep your eyes open.

Breakfast was tasty and with the stormy weather the view was amazing. We'll have to do this again sometime.

BE CAREFUL driving. It's really raining hard. Call me or text me if you need to. [masked]-3085. Should be a great show and great breakfast but don't drive through puddles that you shouldn't drive through. Always text or call from the side of the road. Be safe, folks.

If this were a dive, I'd cancel it.

Same day as my company Christmas party :-(

Yes, if you can't make it, send your wife. We'll signal Callie and Phil to distract the waiters while we help her smuggle Pistachio Duck Pâté into her purse for you.

    • Callie M.

How do ya want us to distract them, Eric? Snorkel outside the windows and wave live lobsters at the staff? ;-)

I just perused their wine list and nearly had a stroke. Let's see, I could buy their most expensive bottle of wine, or I could buy a new Dry Suit. This buffet will be really easy on the wallet by comparison. Looking forward to it!

Just smuggle in a bottle of Two Buck Chuck!

I can make it at 7am and I'll be sure to have a very light dinner the night before.

@Phil and Callie: what could be more romantic than an anniversary breakfast with 12 of your best Power Scuba buddies?

    December 6, 2012

    • Callie M.

      Uh....uh....gee, Lida, I dunno!

      1 · December 6, 2012

    • Eric G.

Ohhhhh congratulations to both of you. We'll give you two a little privacy. It'll still be great to see you and wish you two well :)

It's a small world! Phil and I already have 7 AM rezzies for Dec. 13th. We'll see you there.

    December 6, 2012

    • Eric G.

Wow Callie! It'll be good to see you both. I talked with Scott and my wife and 7:00 AM works for us so I called Marine Room and changed the reservation. Feel free to RSVP if you'd like to join us. If not, we'll throw food at your table.

      December 6, 2012

    • Callie M.

Actually, it's kind of an almost-anniversary breakfast for us, so we sit in the corner and throw food at YOU.

      December 6, 2012

  • Callie M.

Phil and I have done the breakfast buffet before. Food is awesome; there's so much it's hard to decide what to eat. You may want to bring wetsuit, mask, fins and snorkel to breakfast in case the waves break through the glass.

    (Only kidding....I think....)

Eric, does your wife know about the mouth-to-mouth with a supermodel?

    December 6, 2012

    • Eric G.

All my wife knows is the REAL story. I used my mouth, but only to swear and say "ow" a few times.

      December 6, 2012

  • Bill P.

I'd do it in an instant if I didn't have to work!

    December 6, 2012

    • Eric G.

Hey Bill, I changed it to 7:00 AM now. Maybe you can squeeze in breakfast before work!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
