Explore Tai O and learn more about the Pink Dolphins

From our new base in Tai O we will explore the ancient fishing village of Tai O and investigate the marine environment of the Pink Dolphin, Hong Kong's most endangered species.
We have recently secured our kayak base in Tai O so we are on a journey of discovery to see what this remote area of Hong Kong has to offer. Come along and learn with us as we explore the wonderful history, environment and culture of a unique and amazing part of Hong Kong (and the world at large).

We depart Tai O at 10:30am giving us plenty of time to explore.

Bring your lunch - in a water tight container (dry bag).

We have introduced a policy of NO PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES (see 'more pages' of this website for details). Please ensure you bring along your own personal water container or be penalised for polluting the planet if you bring plastic water!

How to get there.

The simplest way is to catch the MTR to Tung Chung then get the number 11 bus from the bus terminal to Tai O - get off when the bus terminates!.

It is a short walk (10 minutes) from the bus to our new kayak base, but don't worry, we will meet you at 10:30 so you don't get lost. If you want a pdf of how to get there email me at [masked].

What to bring.

As always, wet shoes, a long sleeved rash vest, a water bottle (full of water), lunch, a camera, a smile and a sense of humour and wonder.

We have no idea what we will find or do. We are out to explore and discover.

As always, our cancelation policy applies: no notice of cancellation, instant expulsion from the group - no exceptions or excuses!

Thank you, Justin, for a wonderful trip! The Tai O base is a great idea, what a beautiful place to explore--the village, the waterfalls, the dolphins... will surely love to do that again!

Hi guys sorry for late reply, just got back from China and Tai O. Trip is not cancelled and weather seems to be getting better. It will be wet but warm so just make sure you just bring a rain jacket if you have one. It also seems that it will be a tad windy. Things you need.
    1) Clothes that WILL get wet
    2) Closed toe shoes. Running shoes work perfect. (Those who do not comply with this will not be allowed to be on the trip. No excuses)
    3) Packed lunch in water proof case
    4) Water in a reusable water bottle!
    5) A change of clothes for after kayaking.
    6) Hat and sunglasses always are a true benefit (weather changes, even if you think not needed, they come in handy)
    7) Camera

Directions. Meet at the bus stop in Tai O.
    my phone number is[masked]

Its takes from central via Tung Chung 1 and a half hours. find the time schedule online. From Central via Mui Wo, 40 mins plus the bus ride from mUI wO TO tAI O thats another 50 mins. Cheers Justin

Any outdoor store will have it. Try Mongkok at the corner of Nelson St and Tung Choi Street, there is a corner store upstairs that sell outdoor gears.

Any time set for a cancellation decision, just in case weather doesn't co-operate?

Hi Justine, I'm excited with the Tai O base. Kayak is the most responsible way to see pink dolphins (no motor boats, no chasing after them for touristy gain)!! I'm wondering how long does it take to get from Mui Wo to Tai O, or Tung Chung to Tai O. I see that on Saturday there are 9:45am buses departing from Mui Wo and Tung Chung respectively, would that make it to Tai O at 10:30am or we should take an earlier bus? Thanks!!

Excuse me, is it ok for me to join if I just completed your part A training and got a 3 stars certificate?

    Thanks!

Please complete a part B first to make the paddling a more enjoyable experience for all. It is better to get your skills up before attempting a sea kayak journey. We look forward to seeing you on the water soon and the Tai O trip will become quite regular now we have a base there.
