Foundations of Composition - Class #5

This is a beginners series on the Fundamentals of Composition, Class #5.

How to get into this class.

There are 30 spots for this meetup. Put yourself on the wait-list to get in. Priority is given to those who have attended the prior classes. I have to manually move people on and I do this from the wait-list. If you aren't on the wait-list I can't put you in the class. I know, it's a pain, but believe me, this is a bigger pain for me than for you.

• Review previous lecture points
• Critique your homework shots
• Watch videos by Ben Long

In this class, you will learn

Guiding the Viewers Eye, Layers. More details to come

Class Exhibition  Sept 26th - Open house student exhibition

This weeks shooting assignment and homework

To be determined

Upload photos to and tag class#4. We will review these starting when the first few people arrive!

2. Go to Flickr or find 3-5 photos of shoots where the subject is on the 1/3s.

Cut and past the url's into the comment box.

What to bring

Bring pen and paper, snacks, drinks. You will be LEARNING a lot of rules and techniques and will want to study this information until it is second nature. When you get into a photographic situation where you can't find the shot or are overwhelmed, you will be able to fall back to these learnings and walk away with  great shots.

You can use any type of camera. Composition is about lining up your subject in the viewfinder, however this class is best served by those with a camera that can control depth of field and shutter speed. Also if you have a telephoto or multiple lenses. No need to bring your camera.

It is not necessary but you should familiarize yourself with:

Over and underexposure
Depth of field
Camera position
Focal length
Motion stopping
Speed of a lens
The functionality of your camera’s features and button layout.

There is plenty of free parking but arrive early.

Special thanks to Colleen Kelly who is providing the space at Bandia Rua Studios to host this meetup. If you need studio rental time, talk to Colleen.

I will definitely leave earlier this time! I was so tired from all the shooting I was doing that I could not get myself together that day.
