WLA event - Copyright and the Law of Photography

PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS AN INVITATION TO A LECTURE, NOT A MEETUP.

Although WLA regularly presents lectures on copyright, this is a photography-specific copyright lecture, and the only one I've seen in the past few years. Let's give them a lot of support so they put it on more regularly. ;-)

PLEASE register and pay at Brown Paper Tickets

This event is $15 and is usually well worth it. One of the topics that photographers who are not lawyers will wax most lyrical about is that of copyright. Ever had a fellow photographer tell you what you should do about releases? Come get the real dirt from a lawyer.

WLA is a nonprofit service organization dedicated to supporting the arts in Washington state by creating alliances and making legal resources accessible to artists and arts organizations of all disciplines. The description below is quoted from their website at http://www.thewla.org/copyright-and-the-law-of-photography-december-4-2012/

What are your legal rights and responsibilities as a photographer? Do you have questions about your contracts or about the copyright on your work? In the modern era of intellectual property law, with digital technology and complex contracts, knowing your legal rights is as important as making amazing photos.

In this presentation, Jen Hurley will cover important topics to ensure that you protect yourself and your clients from any legal pitfalls, including:

When do you need permission from your photography subjects?
What are different licensing schemes for your photos?
What can you do if someone is using your work without your permission?
