Seacoast Photographers Group Monthly Meetup

Monthly Challenge:
Our challenge for this month's meeting is Melt. Between now and the meeting, take up to three photographs which somehow speak to your interpretation of the subject - please feel free to take great liberty with your interpretation of the subject.

Don't be shy, we have a very encouraging group of critics and we'll all learn something from the experience. Most of all, have fun shooting!

Brown Bag Bingo:
We're more than half way through this year's BBB Challenge. Tonight's swap night, of course, so bring your bag (if you're participating), and get a new one.

Instructions for Uploading Photos:
Upload photos at www.PhotoMeets.com - an upload site for Seacoast Photographers' challenges. If you already have an account, login and add your photos. If you haven't created an account there yet, click the "Request Invite" button, add your name and email, choose a password, and you can then upload your photos.

An account allows you to upload faster and will keep track of all your previous uploads. If you'd rather upload anonymously, simply click here, click the "Upload Photos for this Event" button, complete the required information, upload your photos, and you're done!

Location:
We meet at the beautiful Town Hall Gallery building, directly across from the bandstand and Town Hall Offices. Park on the street or in the nearby municipal lot and walk on over - you may enter at the front or left side of the building.

Other:
Bring other photos if you'd like feedback or critique, and be prepared to [helpfully] critique others'.

Anything photography- or photographer-related is fair game.

Join or login to comment.

Great meeting Thursday! I'm really excited about the upcoming Spring show! When we were talking about price points for pieces that are being entered, John mentioned a book that discusses art/photo pricing as well as a few other awesome topics like submitting to juried shows etc. Did anyone catch the name of the book or the author? Thanks!

    Links requested from this meeting.

Local photography groups you should check out include:

    NHSPA
the excellent folks at the NH Society of Photographic Artists (www.NHSPA.org). $25/yr membership includes excellent lectures, the annual January show at the Exeter Town Hall Gallery. NHAA Photo Group
Also, the photography group of the NH Art Association is an informal get-together of local photographers at the beautiful Lincoln-Levy gallery in downtown Portsmouth (a good excuse to meet for a bite beforehand). Meetings are on the second Thursday of each month. Free to join, though donations are welcomed, contact Link Wickett ([masked]) to be put on the distribution list.

    Pricing Artwork
I mentioned an excellent book by an excellent author on getting your work into galleries and pricing your work. I can vouch that this system works, and so can my dear friend Ronald Gehrmann, who moved from Portsmouth to New York City and sells his photography $40K at a time.

The book is available at Amazon in book (http://amzn.to/ONailO) or Kindle (http://amzn.to/1dhN963) editions.

Happy Friday All !!! Some of us shared the same thought... How about adding a segment on... Talk about selected photos in terms of vision/idea behind, exposure details, improvements that could be done, etc. I think it adds value and more involved experience in these meetings. Overall its a good meet.

Good idea, Sujay, and one we've a few times before. Submit a photo by email to me ([masked]) and we'll review and critique at the next meeting. The idea (as has been done in the past), is that you would apply any helpful suggestions and show off the before-and-after photos at the following meeting.

Befores/Afters is another great idea. Submitted the photo.

Sorry I missed last night's meetup. I figured you all didn't need this cold - it's a nasty one.

I understand that printing for the upcoming exhibition was discussed. I'd be happy to make prints for anybody who's interested. I do ask that people not wait till the last minute to ask me to make prints for them. I'll be available to start making other people's prints as soon as I'm done printing and framing my own show, which is being hung on April 1st (no foolin').

I use ProDPI. They are awesome in their pricing and print quality. They use some of the best pro printers on the market. May want to look into them.

The discussion of how broadly the criteria for the show could be taken was very useful. I'm now feeling seriously tempted to find some shots to submit and see about finding framing and matting supplies to meet the requirements. I've used Sams club to run my prints to date (admittedly only for my own personal use) and have been reasonably happy with their quality. I'm not sure whether they'd be a suitable source for the prints for the show or whether I need to look into one of the folks mentioned during the last meeting...

    ¡Hola!
It was good meeting in a nice place. I agree with Sujay; another segment could be Photo critique for those of us who are confortable with it.

Hello everyone. I am having problems uploading my photos. "Error Occurred While Processing Request
The request has exceeded the allowable time limit Tag: cffile " Plus much more.

I have tried several times. Any suggestions?

I am looking forward to seeing you all again.

I have had problems uploading also. I discovered it was my Norton program. I can only upload using Norton's Vault password part of the program. I hope I can finally get to upload tonight.

I regretfully cannot attend tonight's meeting. I have been working for a long time on my Exhibit photographs. I only use Picasa. I don't have any Adobe products. I want to make them good as possible and upload tonight if I don't run into any further problems.

PS - Is anyone interested in a Canon Pelix 35mm camera? It has a 55mm 1:1.2 lens. A friend has asked me to get best offers for it. I'll try and remember to bring it with me tomorrow night.

Hey all! I'm excited to come to my first meeting! To submit a photo for the challenge, "Melt", does the photo have to have been taken in the last 30 days? Or can I submit one from January? Thanks!

    March 13, 2014

    • John

Ideally, you would challenge yourself to take the photo between meetings. However, ideals and reality don't always walk hand in hand.

Welcome Gene, This is a great group. I have used Sony cameras for years. Their technology is outstanding. The a77 is my primary camera. I would be glad to discuss this with you at an upcoming meeting.
