What's "Rembrandt" lighting, you ask? What's the difference between high-key and low-key lighting? The differences between broad and short lighting? How does a particular photographer you admire get that great lighting? Is the same light setup good for men and women?

If you're curious to find out, experienced enough to share, or just plain old want to practice different lighting setups, this is a Meetup for you.
Bring your dSLR camera as long as it has a standard hotshoe mount and you know how to set the aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and white balance. If not, you can use one of ours.
We'll have triggers, light meters, lights and modifiers, and pretty much everything else you need. If you want to bring your own trigger, bring your PocketWizard Plus III, Plus 4, or Plus X. Other triggers will be incompatible.
Lens Pro to Go will be back with an assortment of lights, and we'll set a good part of our well-received lecture room into portrait studios. Yes, this will be a very hands-on workshop.
We'll work with one-, two-, and three-light setups, using each other as models.
Since we have less seating capacity, availability for this workshop will be tighter than the last one, which sold out. Well, that didn't last long - sold out in a little over 12 hours. We'll change the setup so we'll have less tables, allowing for more room for chairs while still accommodating the studio setups.

Nice Video from FJ Westcott using the Spiderlight TD6 that quickly summarizes some of the lighting positions that John taught at the workshop. http://youtu.be/W-3AKUoi5Sk![]()

Very enjoyable and informative. Thanks so much John, and also every one else who shared their knowledge, enthusiasm, PocketWizards, and faces! (I had posted this comment under the 101 workshop by mistake already....sorry for the error, but wanted to be sure to add my enthusiasm to the proper thread).

Wonderful workshop John. Thanks again. Making do at the last minute was a challenge you met successfully. Lots of fun.

I will be attending tonight's meet up on lighting in Portsmouth, and if anyone has an old point and shoot collecting dust in a drawer somewhere, I would be happy to help you bring it back out into the light! On Monday I am sending donated cameras to THE GIVING LENS ( www.TheGivingLens.com ) to support a youth art program starting in Peru. We need 8 more donations. Basic point and shoots are perfect. Nothing fancy is required and you would be amazed at what these kids can produce with them And their desire to stay in school increases tenfold, just so they can continue to participate! Anything you can donate will be most gratefully appreciated.

Look, I may never take a photo in a studio, but at least this way I'll know the fundamentals . . . and if I should live long enough, I'd become good at it. So, away we go!
