Counter-Economics Planning and Networking Session #3

Alright folks let us try to reconvene once again. The momentum has been slower than I hoped, but this is always to be expected. I've had some of my own limitations with my health and my schedule, but I will keep going and posting these meetups regardless of pace or how many are at my side. Whether I am alone or have 20,000 by my side, I will always be trying to further the mission of a radically freer society because shit just keeps getting worse and I'm tired of being comfortable and my life being convenient.

I have come to realize that society has a fetish for convenience and the logical conclusion of convenience is slavery. That is, convenience is about abdicating responsibility to others. The more we abdicate our responsibilities the more slave-like we become. Advertising is so good... that corporations are starting to know what we want before we even realize it. Google wants you to store all your data on its servers, the state wants you to surrender more and more of your ability to defend yourself. It goes on and on... and we do this because it frees up our time for other things-- its convenient. So to hell with convenience! Lets keep working, no matter how little we think we can do. Just keep going.

That being said, here's a brief roundup from what I know that has been going on.

*Joseph and I have mostly been focusing on privatizing and anonymizing our communications. I am also leaning more towards wanting to start our own version of a friendly society. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friendly_society

*Chris has been networking with a group called Copblock and wants to get a drone up and running.

*Sean has been researching counter-education materials. he has a google group dedicated to this end.

*Anyone else got something going on that they'd like to tell us about? Post it in the comments.

Otherwise, maybe we can come up with a more convenient location to get some more people in on this. Please please chime in and make your preferences known: post in the comments. There are 146 members here (which is amazing!) but sadly I've maybe only met 30 of them. No matter what though, lets keep going.

One harsh snowy winter will be the end of your experiment. There's a reason we live on the west coast.

Hi Everyone, I actually wont be able to make it to this one, because my grandmother's 90th birthday party is that day, and I am moving that weekend. I did read 'how to' chapters of "The Schools Our Children Deserve" so expect a synopsis shortly on the Counter-Education Google group soon. Thank you for the suggestion Rebekah, this is exactly what I was looking for. Chip said that there are some Youtube videos of the author Alfie Kohn. I'll search for those and link them to the Google and Facebook groups as well. Also, I'll most likely purchase his books in a couple of weeks, after I get moved in and they will be available for anyone who would like to read them.

Vincent and I are both happy to provide transportation. We have a total of 8 seats that we can use to come pick people up.

Respond here to suggest a location: Seattle? Tacoma? Issaquah? Abu Dhabi? Tell us and we'll try to find the most central location.
