3.5e campaign forming near Fremont (signups closed)

I'd like to run a 3.5e campaign. I'm currently thinking we'd play at Card Kingdom on Wednesdays from 6pm-10pm, but we might move to my apartment in Fremont if Card Kingdom proves too loud.

I have an "about me" document here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZwgQia_kCY6MWSnuByAE8b0Zzmj_ebJXRniCF0VgSoQ/edit

We'll start with a one-shot or something similar, so that everyone can get a feel for the game, before embarking on the campaign.

So glad to hear everyone had a great time. I apologize for bowing out. Hope tonight leads to the lands of great adventure.

Nice game, energetic players, no rules-lawyering, good DMing. Put this one in the win column.

Thanks for coming by! I had a good time.

...so we have two people here so far. Hopefully people are just held up in traffic?

      I'm here. Where are you?

I unfortunately had something urgent come up, so can't make it tonight. :( If y'all meet up again and want another person, let me know!

Got off of work late, but I am on my way...

We'll be late too. Currently in traffic.

Hi I just joined the group. If the sign ups are closed all you have to do is delete this meetup so it doesn't show up for people to sign up for it. :)

I think we have hit our player limit at this point. It's a bit tricky to tell from the signup list, since I see a few people signed up who I know can't make the game, and I know that these sorts of things usually get a few drops at the last minute. (And not everyone who shows up to talk will want to become a player.) But I'm going to close signups now, assuming I can figure out how to do that.

Oh -- sorry about that. When I saw your question I assumed you had already clicked attend. ^_^; For future reference, yeah, I'd recommend click and then ask.

Ok thank you for the info. Hopefully I can get into a game some day soon :)

I have a prior commitment for this week only so I can't come but do email me details of future get togethers.

Pathfinder and 3.5 are both good systems. Pathfinder may allow for some extra unique mechanics, but their absence can be made up for in rp elements, IMO. I'm looking forward to this, either way.

Like Jason stated Pathfinder does fix some things and it also has a much better take on things like redundant skills. I however only meant to put it out there for peoples preferences. As far as this first meet I definitely want to be there to meet everyone. If however the game moves to a private residence..I apologize...at that point I will drop the group. Hope to see you all on Wednesday.

    April 1, 2013

    • Dan B

Wait, you'll drop the group if we move to a private residence? :( That's too bad. It will be good to see you this Wednesday, at least.

      April 1, 2013

    • Stephen

Over the years I have had more than a few bad experiences at private residences. I may change my opinion later. But as of now I am apprehensive. I also must use my two legs and public transit. Sorry for the bad news. At the very least I will be there Wednesday. See you all then

I'd just like to exhort everyone to come out and meet up (heh, see what I did there). We can shake out expectations then, although personally, since this is Dan's initiative, I am willing to follow his lead. The more people we get the greater the likelihood that we'll all connect with someone and get the game we want. I'm looking forward to this!

-- Well, it's like this. I've run 3.5e for several years; I know all the feats, all the spells, most of the splatbooks, most of the standard monsters. If I try to run Pathfinder instead, I lose most of that knowledge. It means more research-time for me when you guys try to use powers from splatbooks; it means more herp-a-derp time when you do something surprising in the middle of the game and I have to pause the action to figure out what's going on.

I did run a Pathfinder campaign once. If players really want to do Pathfinder I guess we can do that. I'm not as enthusiastic about it.

Dan as a fellow storyteller/DM I understand loving a system and then having players suggest something I am less comfortable with. If it comes down to it I am great at rules reference once it comes to playing at the table. I would also not mind being DM's assisst for any of the busy work both away from and at the table....but as always you word is law. "DM another word for God in kobold" ~anonymous player

I'm interested in coming, as well -- unless you've already got too many people? I've played 3.5 before (though not for a few years), but have never played Pathfinder. I'm up for either, though.

    March 31, 2013

  • Irish

I wouldn't mind looking at Pathfinder, but my vote is 3.5 to start...

Or we could do a google hang out! Less commitment on everybody's behalf and we can knock it out in the evening from the comfort of your own home!

    March 31, 2013

    • Dan B

Interesting suggestion! I'm going to do this one face to face, though.

      March 31, 2013

  • Jason

I'll echo Stephen on preferring Pathfinder over 3.5. It fixes a lot of the things that were wrong. It's like 3.75. I have a PDF copy available.

As I had mentioned before, Wednesday (and Thursday) are deal-breakers for me.

I'd much prefer a residence to a business. I don't mind an initial meeting at Card Kingdom, just to see what's what, though my Wednesdays are locked one way or another.

    March 31, 2013

    • Dan B

Yeah, sorry about that. :-/ I'll make sure to let you know if the time and location change.

Is Wednesday just a meet & greet or are we bringing characters?

    March 31, 2013

    • Dan B

My plan was that I would show up with pregens and run a brief one-shot, assuming the environment isn't too noisy. We'd probably spend some time meeting and greeting too.

      March 31, 2013

    • Dan B

You're welcome to bring a character if you prefer.

      March 31, 2013

  • Jacob

I would have to leave around 8:40

    March 31, 2013

    • Dan B

Sorry, that's not going to work for me -- I don't want to have players who have to leave halfway through the climactic battle of each night. I hope you can find some other group that will work better with your schedule.

Looks like we have at least 5 players now. So maybe a vote on Pathfinder or 3.5 when we all meet?

    March 31, 2013

  • Justin

I'd be very interested in playing. I'm completely new to the game having bought the 4th edition red box recently. I'm interested in learning 3.5 or pathfinder. My question is are there currently to many people attending for me to go as well?

I would love to play a 3.5 game! I have been playing 4e for the last couple I'd years, but I grew up playing 3.0 and 3.5 ( especially ebberon) and I would love to play with you guys! I work on the east side so I'll try my best to make it in by 6.
