Tyranny of Dragons - Hoard of the Dragon Queen

Fifth Edition Dungeons and Dragons is kicking off with a huge investment for their Organized Play!  Lots of free stuff and a fantastic adventure to get things going.  I do have the five-head Tiamat miniature and I'm looking forward to bringing it to the table!

Okay, you will have a chance to prevent Tiamat from arising to threaten the world, but it's not going to be easy.

For years, the evil Cult of the Dragon has devoted itself to creating undead dragons in a vain attempt to fulfill an ancient prophecy. However, the cultists were misguided. They misunderstood. But now, under new leadership, the cult believes that the prophecy does not speak of undead dragons, but of a dragon empire that’s been extinct for 25,000 years. Tiamat, the queen of evil dragons, has languished in the Nine Hells for millennia. The cult believes that the time of her return is at hand.

So dire is this threat that five disparate factions have set aside their differences (at least temporarily), to present a united front.  So, take up the cause of either the Harpers ("do-gooders"), Emerald Enclave ("hippies"), Lord's Alliance ("the man"), Order of the Gauntlet ("hammer-time"), Zhentarim ("evil curious"), or just be an independent agent for your own cause!

While you're at it, check out the video on this page.  I'm sure this doesn't have any dire portend for an early end to your adventuring career. . .

Me, I'm much too smart and wise to take up something so foolish as adventuring.

It was a great meetup! While I can't say I'm a big fan of 5th edition, it did go well and I think having great players is more important than the particular mechanics I'm using to run the game. I will give kudos to Wotc for providing more support for their organized play program and all of my players seemed to enjoy the folios they received specific to their faction. I am also incredibly impressed with the quality of the adventure and my hat is off to Wolgang Bauer, Steve Winter and Kobold Press! Fifth edition does bring a more deadly element to the game and I can't say as a DM I enjoy dropping players before they can act but the kobolds in this edition are pretty deadly, especially to first level PCs.

I was pleasantly surprised -not by Rob's DMing, which I expect to be awesome, but by the 5E mechanics, which I found accessible and workable. It was good to see familiar faces and old pals and have a great time at the table.

Everyone who RSVP'd for this should have received a message that I'm down a DM for tonight and have been unable to find a replacement so I only have room for those listed as attending (they are returning members from my group and/or dues paying members). I will continue to try and get a DM for next week and will let everyone currently waitlisted know if I am successful. Anyone is welcome to come and watch the game and if any of you are interested in DM'ing this season, I could talk to you about it tonight.

I love seeing the PC's plow through the minion-fest. Then... trouble.

Rob: any chance you could send me my number? I'm not sure I can find my card...

Yeah! I'm glad you're coming back! I'm pretty sure Nick still has your number on file at the store and I'll also take a look for it, but worst case scenario is we start you with a new one for fifth edition.

Do you already have to be a part of Organized Play to participate? If not, do we create a first level character beforehand?

You do not have to be part of organized play to join. You will get a free DCI card, which has a unique number attached to you for when you play games. You can either create a character beforehand or there will be pre-gen characters available. Prior to attaining 5th level, you can change anything about your character other than their name. This give you an opportunity to try out a character without fully committing to a class or race, for example, before you have a chance to experience how it plays.
