Genesee Dog Park

History

Genesee is a permanent off-leash area that was created in 1999.

Description

Located in Southeast Seattle just south of the Stan Sayres Hydroplane Pits and just west of Seward Park on Lake Washington, the Genesee off-leash area is 2.5 acres and is completely fenced with two double-gated entrances. It is easy to keep an eye on dogs as the area is relatively flat and secure. The center 2 acres of the off-leash area is covered in gravel, which makes it mud-free in the winter. The park also has a doggie drinking fountain.

The park itself was not great. It was ok for a neighborhood park if you lived a short distance away. Definitely not a destination park. That being said, the locals who were there today were friendly and their dogs were well behaved. If I lived a few blocks away, I would probably be there a lot because of the friendships of the other local users I would know. Bummer that Kramer wussed out at the park today, he missed a good time hanging out on the fringe of the group. Ali had a great time though.

We had a great time meeting and playing with all the Danes and other dogs. It's a nice park and easy to find. Wouldn't mind going there again.

Parking is on the street right by the entrance or in a lot that is very close.

Can anyone tell me if the parking area is close to the dog park? My rottie recently passed away, and Spook could really use a good play day.
