Here's the list of possible topics that we came up with at the last meeting:
  • Intro to Grails
  • Testing / Spock
  • Design and Architecture -- where to put various functionality
  • Advantages of Grails -- productivity discussion
  • Sweet spots for Groovy and Grails vs. Java
  • Proxies in Hibernate
  • Spring Security
  • Hibernate Gotchas
  • Integrating Grails with existing Java projects
  • Java gaming engines with Groovy (Owen's going to talk about this next meeting)
  • Ways to introduce Groovy/Grails into Java shops
  • Build tools (Gradle vs. Gant vs. Maven)
  • Plugin development
  • How to compile services independent of everything else without having to reload the app
  • NoSQL with Groovy and Grails
  • Rules engines
  • Workflow engines
  • Grails Webflow
  • Griffon
  • Metaprogramming
  • AST Transformations
  • Concurrency / GPars
Feel free to add to this list, and if you want to present on one of these or a completely different topic, let us know.

Remember also that short (15 minutes or less even) presentations just to show something you've been working on are fantastic, so don't feel like you have to be an expert on a large Groovy/Grails topic to share with the group!
