Hack to end Homelessness

*** IMPORTANT: To participate in this event you must register at http://www.eventbrite.com/e/hack-to-end-homelessness-seattle-tickets-11125365267.

This is a fantastic event designed to raise awareness and address homelessness in Seattle. The event contains a mix of art/film and a hackathon that brings together subject matter experts with local hackers. You can read more about the event at http://www.hacktoendhomelessness.com/ and http://www.eventbrite.com/e/hack-to-end-homelessness-seattle-tickets-11125365267.

If you've been interested in using your technical, creative, and business skills to do social good, this is a great event to do it at.

Update: For anyone with questions about the cost of the event, here's some info directly from the lead organizer:

We are doing our best to make this affordable. However, we need to raise at least $12,000 in ticket sales and sponsorships to cover the following expenses:

• Space rental

• Transportation and insurance of works on display

• Food and beverages throughout the event

• Printing & distribution of collateral materials

• Overall event insurance and fees

Others who have contributed to making this event possible include our non-profit partners, who have donated their time in addition to their regular work hours; the producers of @home, who have waived the screening fee; the Gates Foundation, which is covering travel and related expenses for Mark Horvath; and the organizing team, which has collectively volunteered over 800 hours to make this event possible. You can find out more about us and our partners on the project website.

There are some disadvantages do doing this ourselves; namely, not having a 501(c)3 or a big corporate sponsor. But there are advantages as well: No single non-profit benefits exclusively from the effort, which has made it possible for a broad range of organizations to participate, and no company owns the intellectual property we create.

If you know of additional sponsors who could help us offer scholarships or otherwise cover event costs, we would love to connect with them! The same goes for talented coders, devs, and designers who cannot pay the full fee. They can reach out to us via [masked]. We will do our very best to make sure everyone can participate.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
