I see that Yogi has stepped down as organizer of The Seattle Jazz Scene meet up group. Not wanting to have this group disbanded, I'll be happy to keep it going for as long as possible. The dues are pretty low for an organizer-- $75/year, so I'll renew it.
About me: I am a jazz piano player with a quartet (The Steve Jones Quartet); we play gigs here and there around the greater seattle area, mostly private parties, auctions, etc. I also run the Seattle Area Jazz Musicians meetup group. If you're a jazz musician, you should join at http://www.meetup.com/Seattle-Area-Jazz-Musicians/. That meetup is about amateur musicians like myself getting together with others (piano, bass, drums, sax, horn, vocal, and even violin, ukelele, harmonica and others), and having fun playing together, laughing together, making music, and again, having fun. On average, about one new person joins each day. Please accept my invitation to join if you want to learn about jam session and other opportunities like that to make some music together. Venues (representatives of restaurants, wine bars, and other places that want to have jam sessions play at their venue) are most welcome to join as well.
I'd like to know what is working and not working about this meetup, which as I understand it as being a member myself, jazz enthusiasm and wanting to find jazz around the area, highlighting what it seems is a pretty vibrant jazz scene compared to only a few years ago. I think there are more acts than have been posted on this meet up; and I could add them if you'd like. Might have trouble keeping up with the calendars of Boxley's, Jazz Alley, and Tula's though; it is a big responsibility. Anyone want to volunteer to take one of those and add them as (possible) events?
I do love organizing, jazz, and hanging out with folks who like jazz too. Seems like a good start. Hope to hear from you soon.
