Hi Seattle Jazz Scenesters!
I took on being the new organizer of the meetup group. I guess Mike has other things keeping him busy.
I want to revive the group and get some gigs listed that you all suggest for everyone to go to.
If you are a fan please suggest your next show of one of your favorite LOCAL groups, and if you are LoCAL Seattle Jazz Musician, please sign up and suggest your band's gigs here. That way we get a vibrant, up to date listing of local jazz gigs suggested by people "in the know" about the gigs they suggest.
Here's the guidelines:
The shows must be local (Seattle area and surrounding towns) and the musicians must be local. Do not suggest for example, that everyone go see McCoy Tyner at Jazz Alley. We all love McCoy Tyner, but he is not local, and Jazz Alley does not specialize in presenting LOCAL musicians. The idea here is to boost up LOCAL, INDEPENDENT jazz musicians, because they struggle with low budgets, trying to attract audience, and the myriad other challenges indie artists face. The Meetup Group wants to help the local artists, that is why it exists.
So don't post up concerts by established national and international jazz stars or shows at big arenas or stadiums shows that cost $60 bucks a ticket.
DO post up local shows in smaller venues by indie and/or local artists that you think others may not know about and you would like to share the experience of seeing the group live with the others here.
I am going to plug this group on my facebook and other places, please do the same;
For meetups, I will post up suggested Gigs from you all. We are all busy, so our "meetups" will actually just be gigs you can choose to go to (or not). Use this as a resource to hear great local live jazz music. We can include the following types of gigs:
Straight ahead jazz, world jazz fusion (examples Brazilian jazz, Latin jazz, African jazz), jazz jam sessions, experimental/improvisational jazz, concerts or recitals by jazz students or school jazz bands (like, for example, your or your friend's senior recital at Cornish or similar), jazz fusions like acid-jazz, hip-hop jazz, etc.
Ok have at it. We have 35 members now and there haven't been any meetup gigs posted since last fall, so let's give it a fresh infusion. Invite your friends, plug your bands, plugs your friends' bands. There should be plenty of gigs listed every month for people to choose from.
