Buddhism is a practice that allows us to change ourselves by developing the qualities of wisdom, kindness, and awareness. The focus of Buddhism is on practices such as meditating, chanting, and upholding the Buddhist teachings (known as the “Dharma”). Buddhism is non-exclusive, and welcomes those of all religions.
Buddhism is a way of life, a practice based on the principle of serving others before yourself. It is based on the teachings ofSiddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, or "the awakened one,” and originated about 2,500 years ago.
We are members of Shinnyo-en Seattle, a lay Buddhist order originally established in Japan. Our core belief is that everyone can cultivate his or her innate Buddha-nature regardless of age, gender, nationality, or religious background, through following the Buddha’s teachings. Join us in practicing Buddhism, through meditation, chants, and discussions, as embodied in the Mahaparinivana Sutra, the final teachings of the Buddha.
This group will meet every 3rd Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Shinnyo-en Seattle Temple located at 519 South 186th Street, Burien, Washington 98148. These meetings are ongoing, and you are welcome to start any time. If you wish to learn more about Shinnyo-en, please seehttp://www.shinnyoen.org/. It would be appreciated it if you would refrain from calling the temple. Should you have any questions, please contact the organizers.
