My first project was a scarf with knit and purl squares. It took me about 3 weeks--and was pretty short. But I was quite proud of it at the time.
I grew up in southern California in an age lots of acrylic and very shaggy and oddly colored mohair--so I wasn't much interested in knitting. When we retired to Seattle with its many yarn stores, it was really the yarn that drew me in.
I'm not sure about parking, but have you ever tried Green Bean on Greenwood? I can check out parking if you like. I also knit with friends at the Diva on Greenwood at 80th, but it's only good for small groups and parking can be congested.

I think it just wasn't my day. I arrived a few minutes late, the table was already overcrowded and only one person even had a suggestion or responded to my arrival. So, I went upstairs to get a snack and regroup and enjoy the quiet, had a nice conversation with a couple of people, and went home. Maybe I'll try again another time
