I started out just knitting strips or tube of whatever yarn eight-year-old me could find around the house. Eventually, as a teenager, I bought my own yarn and knit a polo shirt, on size 0 needles. It took a month!
My mom taught me garter stitch, although she could barely knit herself. I looked up other techniques in an encyclopedia; then several years later, as an exchange student in Germany, I learned the fast, efficient method I've used ever since.
I'll knit anywhere, but I recently knit myself a beard at Wayward coffee house, with my friend Kikki. I giggled all the way through it. :D Their lighting is good btw.
I've been knitting for longer than most folks realize I've been alive. No, I don't know all the techniques, and there are some I'll never be good at, but I LOVE to knit, and I don't spend near enough time with other knitters.
I have met the best people in this group! Last night was like a party where I got a bunch of knitting done. The atmosphere was so happy and friendly, not to mention the creative energy...I've attended knit-ins before, but none this upbeat and open.
