Darby Canyon Wind Caves

The Darby Wind Cave looks like a giant slit in the side of the mountain when hiking up to it. There is a stream of water running from the cave.

The hike is approximately 2.5 miles each way.

Be sure to bring a coat, gloves, and flashlights.

It can get very cold inside the caves. It can also be very slippery if the rock is wet.

For those who are interested, we can go for pizza and a beer at Wildlife Brewing and Pizza in Victor Idaho on our way home.

Turn off location of hike is somewhere between Victor and Driggs Idaho.

It was our first trip with this Meet Up group and the people on the hike were so personable and no one ever felt left out of the decision making process. It was always a group decision to do something. Thanks for a great time in the Tetons!

This was a great hike and we lucked out with the weather as it would be rough if it was really wet.

If it's really wet out I may bag it. The trails will be starting to get slick and muddy and the NY Giants are playing a division rival at 1100.

I will meet the group at the trail head since I will be coming from Idaho Falls. What time do you expect to be at the trail head? I am guessing about 11 AM.

I think the ice cave is on the other side of the ridge from the wind cave. Anyone ever been there? The hike to the wind cave is beautiful and gentle except for the last 100 yds to the cave.

How does this hike compare to Jackson peak. I need to do the harder.

      October 13, 2012

    • Kenneth K.

I was never to the ice cave, just the wind cave.

This is a great hike and I would love to do it, but with a hike to Jackson on Saturday I will find it hard to do both. Is Jackson a good work out or is it just a stroll? I need something a little of a challenge. Which of the two is the most challenge?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
