Beekeeping on a Biodynamic Farm

Join us to learn about starting and tending hives, maintaining hive health without pesticides or additives, and incorporating bees into the diversified farm.

Jacqueline and Joseph Freeman operate their biodynamic farm in southwest Washington.  At Friendly Haven Rise Farm as they tend bees, livestock, heirloom fruits and vegetables, and teach others about biodynamic farming.  The Freemans’ orientation honors the spirit of the bees and what they have to teach us.

Biodynamic agriculture is a farming system that conceives of the farm as a living organism, a self-contained entity. Emphasis is placed on the integration of crops and livestock, recycling of nutrients, maintenance of soil, and the health and well-being of crops and animals; the farmer, too, is part of the whole. Thinking about the interactions within the farm ecosystem naturally leads to a series of holistic management practices
